MARTHA BENTLY
Martha Bently died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.
Mrs. Bently was a member of Triumph Baptist Church, Heroines of Jericho and Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee Williams Sr. and Ida Williams; her husband, Milton Bently; two brothers, Henry Williams Jr. and Clarence Williams; and three sisters, Willie Mae Dunbar, Estella Williams and Tillie Williams.
She is survived by three sons, Eliz Starks of Long Beach, Calif., Henry Lee Starks of Vicksburg and James Starks of Milwaukee, Wis.; four daughters, Alberta Butler, Ida Mae Stimage and Martha Bomer, all of Vicksburg, and Lula Carter of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and other relatives and friends.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
CARLTON LAMAR BROWN SR.
Carlton Lamar Brown Sr. died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his home. He was 44.
Mr. Brown worked at Quaker State Refinery and was a member of Word of Faith Christian Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Utopia Brown of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ebony Brown of Vicksburg; a son, Carlton Brown Jr. of Vicksburg; his father, James A. Brown Sr. of Vicksburg; two brothers, Anthony Brown and James A. Brown Jr., both of Jackson; two sisters, Jacqueline Brown of Atlanta and Elizabeth Brown of Vicksburg; and his grandmother, Clois Johnson of Vicksburg.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
FRANCES MARION REID CASHMAN
Services for Frances Marion Reid Cashman will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the service.
Mrs. Cashman, an owner and member of the family who founded The Vicksburg Post, died at her home on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002. She was 83.
She was the daughter of Roger and Olevia Porter Reid and was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and attended Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans.
In Vicksburg, Mrs. Cashman participated with her husband, Louis P. Cashman Jr., in his career at the newspaper founded by his grandfather in 1883. Although she held no official title, she was recognized as a “lifelong team member” when he was inducted into the Mississippi Press Association Hall of Fame this year. After Mr. Cashman’s death in 1988, she continued her supportive role.
Mrs. Cashman was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Paul Altar Society, the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary, Hester Flowers Garden Club and the Cannon Club of the United Way of West Central Mississippi.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cashman was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Louise, in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Conway Cashman Cole, and her husband, Tom; a son, Louis Patrick “Pat” Cashman III, and his wife, Barbara; and two grandchildren, Amanda Kathleen Cashman and John Gordon Cashman.
Pallbearers will be Raymond May, Robert Morrison Jr., Jack Stamm, Gordon Cotton, Gil Martin and Curley Whiten Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank J. Pajerski, Gerald Easley, Bob Earhardt, Joe Gerache, Charles Mitchell, Julius Melsheimer, William McGehee, Claude Bagby Jr., David Dabney and Bill Longfellow.

HILDA HAMAKER KATZENMEYER
Hilda Hamaker Katzenmeyer died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 79.
An Isola native, Mrs. Katzenmeyer lived in Vicksburg for more than 40 years. She attended Mississippi College and St. Louis School of Mortuary Science. She was associated with Fisher Funeral Home as a licensed embalmer and insurance manager before working at Merchants National Bank. She also served as caregiver for her sister-in-law, Carmen Katzenmeyer Fisher, before Mrs. Fisher died in 1990.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy A. Katzenmeyer Sr., and her mother, Princella Reed Hamaker.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Robert Quinn of Clinton; and two grandchildren, Erin Quinn and Brian Quinn, both of Jackson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Belzoni City Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
