A former Vicksburg police officer claiming employment discrimination is asking in a federal lawsuit to be reinstated to his former position.

The complaint filed Nov. 25 in U.S. District Court and supporting documents are confusing, and attorneys for Robert Jackson, 43, did not answer phone calls.

For one thing, the suit filed by Jackson attorney James Nobles says the plaintiff, then a sergeant was “discharged,” but an investigator’s report for the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, says it found Jackson “resigned June 12.”

For another, the EEOC letter notifies Jackson of its finding of “insufficient evidence” of age discrimination and the complaint alleges he was a victim of “intentional and wrongful” sex discrimination before also mentioning he was replaced by a “younger male” on the force.

The suit, filed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, also asks for back pay.

City Attorney Walterine Langford said this morning that the city had not received a copy of the lawsuit.
