JOHN FRANCIS KAVANAUGH

John Francis Kavanaugh died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his home. He was 60.

Mr. Kavanaugh was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He retired from State Farm Insurance after 25 years. Mr. Kavanaugh graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in 1960 and received a bachelor of science degree in zoology from Louisiana Polytechnic, where he also received a master’s of business administration. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Mr. Kavanaugh was preceded in death by his parents, James Vardamen Kavanaugh and Beth Rhinehart Kavanaugh.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Kavanaugh of Vicksburg; two sons, John Francis Kavanaugh of Hattiesburg and James Fredrick Kavanaugh of Ridgeland; and one brother, Kenneth Kavanaugh of Seabrook Island, S.C.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 this afternoon at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Don Morton, Jimmy Moore, Johnny Price, Red Beard, Sid Ponder, Mark Hawkins, Jimmy Lee and Tommy Harmon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Newell Simrall III, James Warren, Joe Stuckey, Barney Balton, Charles Burroughs, Dr. Paul Pierce, Raymond Ray, Jerry Derivaux, Prentiss Newton and Scott Verhine.

PHILLIP EDWARDS

PORT GIBSON Phillip Edwards died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Singing River Hospital in Moss Point. He was 44.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, Veronia Edwards and Ethel M. Thompson-Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Crosby-Edwards of Moss Point; a daughter, Sheena Edwards of Moss Point; four brothers, Dannie Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., Donald Edwards of Jackson, Michael Edwards of Moss Point and Vernon Edwards of Port Gibson; a sister, Edna Edwards of Moss Point; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. John Quinn officiating. Burial will be at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 this afternoon and from 9 a.m. Monday until the service at the funeral home.

ANITRA DIONE FISHER

ALEXIS RENEE HARRIS

Anitra Dione Fisher and her daughter, Alexis Renee Harris, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Ms. Fisher was 23; Alexis was 2.

Ms. Fisher was employed by the Isle of Capri Casino and was a member of the New Zion M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, C.J. Fisher Sr. and Minnie Gasfin Fisher and her paternal step-grandfather Robert Carpenter.

Survivors for both include Ms. Fisher’s father, Marshall Edwards of Vicksburg; her mother Minnette F. Chambers of Vicksburg; her stepfather, John F. Chambers of Vicksburg; her paternal grandparents, James Edwards Sr. and Dan Ethel Edwards; and her step-grandmother Laura Carpenter.

Alexis is also survived by her father, Jermaine Harris of Vicksburg; and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Anderson of Vicksburg.

Services for mother and daughter will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Zion M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

MARTHA BENTLEY

Martha Bentley died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.

She was a member of Triumph Baptist Church and a member of Heroines of Jericho.

Mrs. Bentley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee Williams Sr. and Ida Williams; her husband, Milton Bentley; two brothers, Henry Williams Jr. and Clarence Williams; four sisters, Willie Mae Dunbar, Estella Williams, Tillie Williams and Hattie Williams.

Survivors include three sons, Eli Starks of Long Beach, Calif, Henry Lee Starks of Vicksburg and James Starks of Milwaukee, Wis.; four daughters, Alberta Butler, Ida Mae Stimage and Martha Bomer, all of Vicksburg, and Lula Carter of Oklahoma City, Okla., and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Williams Funeral Service. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 this afternoon at the funeral home.
