Selmon, in his second four-year term on the board, replaced District 1 Supervisor David McDonald as vice president.

Both posts are procedural. Each board member gets one vote. George, as board president, presides over board meetings and signs documents for the board. The president’s $37,343, is the same as any other supervisor.

Randy Sherard was retained as the board attorney and John McKee of ABMB Engineering was retained as county engineer.

This is an election year for all county and state officials, except some judgeships. Members of the board and people interested in seeking county posts have until March 1 to apply.

In other first-meeting-of-the-year votes, the board:

Approved payments of $750 and $375 by Anderson-Tullly to the state Department of Environmental Quality for permits related to the Anderson-Tully access road being paid for by a Community Development Block Grant.

Approved payment of $2,090 toward the River Region Medical Center secondary access road project.

Approved payment of $5,662 to APAC-Mississippi from Community Development Block Grant funds for the Yorozu road project at Ceres.

Approved $4,743 for Mayrant and Associates on the $1.4 million roofing project at the jail.

Approved $126,874 for Lampkin Construction for the 2002 resurfacing project.

Supervisors will meet again Jan. 21 after the Jan. 20 Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert E. Lee holiday.
