Edward George Basel Jr.
Edward George Basel Jr. died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 80.
Mr. Basel retired in 1977 from the Federal Aviation Administration after 34 years of service. He was an Army Air Force veteran having served during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Gustav and Helen Ceceila Laking Basel; and his sister, Lorraine Helen Basel.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Wall Basel of Vicksburg; two sons, James Edward Basel of Renton, Wash., and Gerald Thomas Basel of Dublin, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Margaret Basel Lutz of Vicksburg; two brothers, Thomas James Basel and Donald Richard Basel; a sister, Doris Elizabeth Basel; and four grandchildren.
Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Tobias J. Bell III
SATARTIA Tobias J. Bell III died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 60.
A resident of Satartia, Mr. Bell was a contractor and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Lurley Fouche Bell of Satartia; four sons, Gene Moore of Fayetteville, N.C., Gregory Bell of Anguilla, Tobias J. Bell of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Travis Bell of Isola, Miss.; five daughters, Charlotte Young of Austell, Ga., Bridget Conrod of Delta City, Miss., Clarissa Bell of Delta City, LaJuan Pedro of Altadena, Calif., and Yvette Tuitt of Fayetteville, Ga.; three brothers, Charles Bell and Herbert Bell, both of Delta City and Jimmy Bell; four sisters, Lillie Pittman and Mattie Bell Terrell, both of Delta City, Barbara Adams of Mendenhall and Maudine Greene of Hattiesburg; eleven grandchildren; and friends including, Beau “Bo” Dollar.
Services will be at 11 a.m today at King Solomon M.B. Church with the Rev. Johnathan Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Sanders Memorial Cemetery in Hollandale, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Mary Elizabeth Linzy Erwin
HOUSTON, Texas Mary Elizabeth Linzy Erwin died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Methodist Southwest Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was 63.
A former resident of Vicksburg, Ms. Erwin lived in Houston. While in Vicksburg she was employed by Judge Oscar P. Labarre and Batesville Casket Company and was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church. She was a member of Victory of Truth Ministries in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Phillips Linzy; two sisters, Laura B. Linzy and Marie Linzy; and a brother, Willie Linzy.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Devote, Andrew Linzy and Sammie Lindsey, all of Houston; two daughters, Landa Linzy and Vanessa Woods, both of Houston; her father, Johnny Linzy of Monroe, La.; three sisters, Johnnie Moy of Monroe, La., and Theresa Santee and Rosie Luke, both of Houston; six brothers, Theodore Lindsey of Compton, Calif., Jessie Linzy, John H. Linzy, Charles H. Linzy and Walter Linzy, all of Houston and Otis Linzy of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at Duncan Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with Donald E. Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery.
