UTICA Ida Caroline Ferguson McGuffee died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 85.

Mrs. McGuffee was the daughter of Charles Ervin Ferguson and Corrine Towne Ferguson. She was reared in the Adams Station community and attended school at Lebanon, Raymond and Hinds Junior College. She formerly lived at Parchman and was a member of Rome Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and led the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She taught at Rome Elementary School and served as a teacher’s aide in the Drew Public Schools.

Mrs. McGuffee taught piano and participated in the Home Demonstration Club and Drew’s summer baseball program. In 1973, she moved to Utica. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Utica Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. McGuffee Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Russell W. “Mackie” McGuffee of Utica and Charles W. McGuffee of Clinton; two sisters, Sarah S. Collins of Raymond and Katherine “Sissy” Hutchins of Jackson; a brother, Charles Ferguson of Utica; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Utica Christian Church. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight and from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

James Wilson Reed

BRANDON James Wilson Reed died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 58.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Reed was a resident of Brandon. He received a bachelor’s in aerospace engineering at Mississippi State University. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, was a former assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 416 and packmaster of Cub Scout Pack 576. He retired in 1994 from Vickers Incorporated after 17 years of service as an information services manager. He was the owner of HobbyTown USA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leone Price and James Wilson Reed Sr.; and his stepfather, Jodie Price.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Reed of Brandon; a son, Chris Reed of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeland. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Percy Snyder

FAYETTE Percy Snyder died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Natchez Regional Hospital. He was 81.

A resident of Fayette, Mr. Snyder was a member of Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church. He was a self-employed logger, former owner of the Hide Away Inn and a retired deckhand with the Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Izora Vessel Snyder; a daughter, Ruby Lee Snyder; a brother, Curtis Snyder; a sister, Helen Thomas; and his parents, Peter Snyder and Claretta Coleman.

Survivors include a daughter, Annie Ruth Stander of Fayette; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Anthony Colenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Block Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Jettie Warren

CARY Jettie Warren died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital. He was 62.

Mr. Warren was a resident of Cary.

Survivors include his wife, Regina Warren of Cary; two sons, Tony Warren of Evansville, Ind., and Kevin Knight of Valparaiso, Ind.; three daughters, Dawn Warren of Evansville, Victoria Woodard of Kansas City, Mo., and Andrea Larry of Cary; six sisters, Artimesse Maxey of Anguilla, Dorothy Anderson, Oneta Jones and Katie Smith, all of Los Angeles, Ineta Clark of Chicago and Vergil Warren of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope M.B. Church in Blanton, Miss. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Fitler under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Myrtis Wilson

HERMANVILLE Myrtis Wilson died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. She was 69.

A resident of Hermanville, Ms. Wilson was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Elmo Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wilson and Lizzie Grisby.

Survivors include seven sons, Clarence Wilson, Henry Wilson, Melvin Wilson, Charlie Wilson, Willie Wilson and Woodrow Wilson, all of Hermanville, and Robert Anderson of Port Gibson; four daughters, Sarah Wilson, Jennie Wilson and Doris Wilson, all of Hermanville, and Thelma Odom of Harvey, La.; a sister, Lillie B. Haywood of Pattison; 30 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Elmo Christian Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 tonight at the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Jimmy Youmans

Jimmy Youmans died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home. He was 55.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Youmans was the son of the late James L. Youmans and Virginia Marie Smith. He was a certified alcohol and drug counselor and was in construction. He was a member of the Vicksburg Cruisers Car Club.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, May D. Windham.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Bessonette Youmans of Vicksburg; three sons, Jamie Bessonette of Portland, Ore., Matt Bessonette of Houston, Texas, and Joey Bessonette of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with Scott Phipps officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Karel, David “Cowboy” Miller, Jack Hill, Dave Whitehead, Jim Parks, Matthew Bessonette, Joseph Bessonette and Rick Sullivan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ottis Sandlin, Chris Morley, Jerry McCarthey, John Manby and Kenny Massey.
