Dr. A.S. “John” Brunton
Dr. A.S. “John” Brunton, a veterinarian in Vicksburg for 40 years, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at his home. He was 82.
A native of Peeble, Scotland, Dr. Brunton had lived in Vicksburg since 1951. He graduated as a pilot with the British Royal Air Force in 1941. He finished preveterinary studies at Florida Southern College and graduated from Auburn University. He practiced veterinary medicine for 40 years before retiring in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Miller Brunton; and his parents, William Moffit and Helen Shiels Brunton.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay B. Covode of Pass Christian, Miss., and Margaret Scott Brunton of Philadelphia, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

Grace Dobbs Arrington
DELTA CITY Grace Dobbs Arrington died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 86.
Born in Smith County, Mrs. Arrington had lived in Delta City for the past 50 years. She was a homemaker and member of Delta City Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, James Arrington of Brandon; two daughters, Geraldine Melton of Brandon and Kathy Dunmeyer of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Mayola Traxler of Palaski and Mary Hollingsworth of Morton; and nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Nick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Sam Brown
Services for Sam Brown will be at noon Saturday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel with June Chiplin Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
He worked as a core drill operator for 36 years at Waterways Experiment Station. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lizzie Richards Brown; five brothers, Johnnie Jackson, Sam Brown, Paul Brown, Chester Ross and Walter Warfield; and one sister, Sidney Brown Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel L. Brown of Vicksburg; two sons, Samuel J. Brown of Vicksburg and John A. Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Allyese B. Davis and Sharon B. McBride, both of Vicksburg, and Bernadette, “B.B.” Brown of Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Warfield and Ross families.
Pallbearers will be Alfred L. McBride, Timothy E. Brown, J.D. Brown, Thomas J. Chiplin Jr., Darryl H. Fisher and Von A. Mixon Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel J. Brown, John A. Brown, Christopher D. Brown, Dominique M. Brown, Larry J. Davis Jr., Thomas Henry Warfield, Eric Burks and Jimmy Mixon.
Mr. Brown died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 90.
Margaret A. Dartlone
TALLULAH Margaret A. Dartlone died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Rayville. She was 64.
Born in Forest, La., Mrs. Dartlone had lived in the Waverly community since 1977. She was a housewife and a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Tallulah.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Melvin Dartlone of Delhi; two sons, Tommy Bankston of Rayville and Terry Bankston of Warden, La.; two daughters, Teresa A. Rinicker of Tallulah and Tina Yates of Monticello, La.; three sisters, Marjorie Graham of Monroe, Lillie Mae Wilson of Harrison, Ark., and Delores Ellison of Hot Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Greg Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Corners Cemetery in Forest, La., under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Friday and until the service Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Shane Hayes, Michael Bankston, Mike Pace, Brian Brehn, Charles Whitaker and Chris Mize.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Mize and Carl Brehn.
James Green
ROLLING FORK James “Baby” Green died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital. He was 98.
Mr. Green was a resident of Rolling Fork.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Green of Rolling Fork; two sons, Willie James Morgan of Rolling Fork and Louis T. Green of Chicago; a daughter, Willie B. Cooper of Rolling Fork; a brother, Joseph Green of Chicago; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Egremont Pleasant M.B. Church in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow at Cynthia Diana Cemetery in Anguilla under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
