Leola B. Benjamin

PORT GIBSON Leola B. Benjamin died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at her home. She was 90.

A resident of Port Gibson, Ms. Benjamin was a member of Assembly of Yahweh of Bethel, Pa. She taught in the Claiborne County School System for a few years.

Survivors include relatives and friends including, Nathaniel Martin Sr. of Port Gibson.

Services will be at noon Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Barnes Family Cemetery in Hermanville.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at the funeral home.

Mittie Buie

PORT GIBSON Mittie Buie died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 104.

Ms. Buie was a resident of Port Gibson.

Survivors include a niece, Ethel Watson of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends, including Barbara Tinsley of Port Gibson and Amy Holt of Florence, Ala.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at First Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Block Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today in the funeral home chapel.

Ida Vestine Fortenberry

TRANSYLVANIA, La. Ida Vestine Fortenberry died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Lake Providence. She was 76.

Ms. Fortenberry was a resident of Transylvania, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Roscoe and Edna Esther Bolinger; a brother, Marlin Bolinger; and a sister, Aleda Brasher.

Survivors include three daughters, Pat Robertson of Transylvania, Terri Herring of Lake Providence, and Jane Tesdall of Morris, Ill.; a sister, Lavaun Ottnat of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 today at Transylvania Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.

Pallbearers will be Larry Knight, Brian Dunn, Michael Bradley, David Fortenberry, Pedro Griffin and Roy McCurdy.

Sammie Lee Jackson

PORT GIBSON Sammie Lee Jackson died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.

Mr. Jackson was a resident of Port Gibson.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie B. Wilson of Port Gibson; a daughter, Ruthie Thompson of Port Gibson; a son, Sammie Jackson Jr. of Port Gibson; five stepdaughters, Janie Shorter, Ethel Minor and Syrenia Wilson, all of Port Gibson, and Louise Wilson and Lucille Wilson, both of Jackson; two stepsons, Allen Parker and Tommie Wilson, both of Port Gibson; three sisters, Fannie Collins and Irene Jackson, both of Pattison, and Edith Bailey of Vicksburg; a brother, Ernest Jackson of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; 29 stepgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Christian Church in Pattison with T.E. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Grove Christian Church Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel and from 1 p.m. until the service Monday at the church.
