Tommy John Jones Sr.

Services for Tommy “TJ” John Jones Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Center with the Rev. Dexter Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home from 6-7 p.m. Sunday and at St. Mary’s Center from 10 a.m. Monday until the service.
Mr. Jones died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home. He was 88.
Mr. Jones was a retired laborer at Anderson-Tully Lumber Co. He was a deacon and member of Cool Spring M.B. Church, where he was in the male chorus and served as an adult Sunday school teacher.
He was a member of Broadwater Lodge No. 55 F&AM and the Willing Workers Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel B. Jones; one son, Tommy J. Jones Jr.; one sister, Lula Mae Mershon; and his parents, Monroe and Josie White Jones.
Survivors include five sons, Alonzo Jones and Dexter Jones, both of Vicksburg, Delbert Jones of Dale City, Va., Carlton Jones of Ocean Springs and Smith Wayne Reed of Springfield, Mass.; seven daughters, Lula M. Jones, Sinatra A. Williams, Margaret Harris, Cloria Jones, Carla L. Brinnon and Vanessa M. Prentiss, all of Vicksburg, and Tommie S. Winters of Clinton; 39 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, including Elizabeth Roberts of Vicksburg; nephews; cousins and other friends and relatives, including the Waters, Williams, Roberts and Johnson families of Vicksburg.
Elizabeth Camphor Martin
PORT GIBSON Elizabeth Camphor Martin died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her home. She was 56.
A resident of Port Gibson, Ms. Martin was a graduate of Alcorn State University. She was a member of Greater St. Mark Church where she served as a church mother, president of the deaconess board, church announcer and a member of the choir. She was a member of the Vicksburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, the Willing Workers Club, Senior Matron Club and the Vicksburg-Alcorn State University Alumnae Chapter. She was a teacher at Port Gibson Middle School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel L. Camphor and Dorothy Polk; and a brother, Edgar Lee Spruille Jr.
Survivors include a son, Fredrick Martin Jr. of Vicksburg; three daughters, Regina Prentiss and Tabatha Crawford, both of Vicksburg, and Jacqueline Glass of Brandon; two sisters, Barbara Spruille-Johnson of Lorman and Christine Spruille of Pattison; four brothers, Joe L. Camphor of Lancaster, Calif., Jimmy Spruille of San Diego, Calif., and Sgt. Robert Spruille and Gary Spruille, both of Longview, Texas; nine grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Crystal Martin of Vicksburg and Fredrick Martin Sr. of Port Gibson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel followed by a ceremony by the Vicksburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. from 5 until 6 at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with family hour from 6 until 7.
JoAnn Payne
Services for JoAnn Payne will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Williams Funeral Service Chapel from 5 to 7 tonight.
Mrs. Payne died Tuesday Jan. 14, 2003, at her home. She was 50.
Mrs. Payne was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Bingham Dandredge and Louise Payne Saddler; and one brother, Vincent Smith.
She is survived by her mother, Catherine Hooper Smith; two brothers, Wilbert Smith Jr. and Bernard Payne, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Virginia Jefferson of Vicksburg, Rosemary Bingham Washington of Detroit and Ethel Lee McQueen and Alfreida Shelton, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; and other relatives, including Eddie Hooper and Ora Lee Hooper of Vicksburg.
Genevieve Paluch Zelasko
Genevieve Paluch Zelasko died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003. She was 85.
Mrs. Zelasko was born in Chicago to Simon and Mary Kaminski Paluch. She had been a Vicksburg resident for the past year. She retired as a proofreader from Commerce Clearing House of Chicago.
She was a member of Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Zelasko; three sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include a son, Joseph S. Zelasko of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sandra Wollek of Glendale, Ariz.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in Chicago.
