Charles E. O’Bannon

Charles E. O’Bannon died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 57.

Mr. O’Bannon, a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, was the son of the late Bo and Alma Green O’Bannon. He worked as a tankerman for a number of barge lines before retiring.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by a brother, the Rev. James O’Bannon of Louisiana; three sisters, Bobbie Doubleday of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mary Jo Price and Linda May, both of Vicksburg; three nieces; and two nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quin officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Paula Suzzanne Templeton

Paula Suzzanne Templeton died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at her home. She was 45.

Miss Templeton, a lifelong Vicksburg resident, graduated from Warren Central High School. She was employed for a number of years at Delta Point Restaurant. She was a member of Warrenton Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard B. and Pauline Slater Templeton.

She is survived by a brother, Randy Templeton of South Bend, Ind.; a sister, Bonnie Ratcliff of Vicksburg; and two nephews, Brian Ratcliff of Dallas and Andy Templeton of Key West, Fla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Steve Shappley officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Steen, Glenn Steen, Andy Templeton, Brian Ratcliff, Gregg Strong and Jason Broome.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Hazzlerigg, Kelly Kavanaugh, Gene Steen, and elders and deacons of the Warrenton Church of Christ.

James Watson Jr.

James “Jack” Watson Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 69.

Born in Copiah County, Mr. Watson had lived in Vicksburg for the past 12 years. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Springhill Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Viola Allen Watson, and a sister, Rosa Mae Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Watson of Vicksburg; two sons, James Ricky Watson of Wesson and Daniel Earl Watson; five daughters, Wanda Gail Newman of Brookhaven, Brenda Sue Odom of Hazlehurst, Peggy Lynn Lowery of Wesson, Charlotte Posey of Vicksburg and Sheila Owens of Port Gibson; a brother, Calvin Patrick Watson of Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Louise Minton of Hazlehurst; and 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Parkson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Newman, Sidney Odom, Richard Watson, Brad Watson, Michael Owens, Matthew Owens, Marcus Posey and Chris Darnell.

Davis Andrew Whitfield Jr.

GREENVILLE Davis Andrew Whitfield Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.

Mr. Whitfield was born in Delhi, La., and had been a Greenville resident for the past 62 years. He graduated from Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He retired as a self-employed entomologist and cotton consultant in the South’s area Delta regions.

He was a founding member of the Mississippi Consultant Association and a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Davis A. Whitfield and Annie Mangham Whitfield; a brother, Wesley Whitfield; and his wife, Jean Eloise Wait Whitfield.

Survivors include a brother, Col. Joe Mangham Whitfield of Falls Church, Va.; three daughters, Ruthanne Lucey of Woodbridge, Va., Alice Jean Dortch of Vicksburg and Margaret Brasseux of Houston, Texas; two sons, Davis Andrew Whitfield III of Greenville and Van Pierce Whitfield of Houston; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Geoffrey Joyner and Will Dowling officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
