Edward George Basel Jr.
Memorial services for Edward George Basel Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Mr. Basel died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 80.
He retired in 1977 from the Federal Aviation Administration after 34 years of service. He was an Army Air Force veteran having served during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Gustav and Helen Ceceila Laking Basel; and his sister, Lorraine Helen Basel.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Wall Basel of Vicksburg; two sons, James Edward Basel of Renton, Wash., and Gerald Thomas Basel of Dublin, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Margaret Basel Lutz of Vicksburg; two brothers, Thomas James Basel and Donald Richard Basel; a sister, Doris Elizabeth Basel; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Louise Grace Ferry Brown
Louise Grace Ferry Brown died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Waukegan, Ill., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1936.
She was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and National College of Education in Evanstown, Ill. She received her bachelor of education degree and worked two years in the Waukegan Public School System.
She was a charter member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Raymond Brown; her parents, Earl William and Helen Louise Carswell Ferry, and two sisters, Elizabeth Ferry Corpe and Helen Ferry Stiles.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise B. and Tommy Swilley of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick R. and Nancy H. Brown Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, and Roger Alan and Barbara B. Brown of Winchester Va.; a brother, Earl William “Bill” Ferry of Waukegan; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth, pastor of Hawkins United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery under the direction of Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be men of Hawkins United Methodist Church.
Thaddeus Albert Dillard
Thaddeus Albert Dillard died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 57.
Mr. Dillard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a long-time employee of Delphi Automotive in Clinton. He graduated from Temple High School in Vicksburg and attended Jackson State University.
He was a member of the House of Peace Worship Church of Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Dillard Jr.; a sister, Flora Howard; and a brother, William Richardson.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Dillard of Raymond; two daughters, Rochelle Dillard of Blytheville, Ark., and Kimberly Williams of Spanaway, Wash.; a son, Jeremy Thomas of Vicksburg; three stepchildren, Mary Jenkins, Barbara Adams and Gregory Robinson, all of Jackson; his mother, Bessie Richardson Dillard of Vicksburg; five brothers, John Henry Dillard of Vicksburg, James Cornelius Dillard of Oak Park, Ill., Perry Lawrence Dillard of Gulfport, Larry E. Dillard of Miami, Fla., and Leon Harper of Dale City, Va.; four sisters, Bessie Mae Funches and Evangelist Linda Sweezer, both of Vicksburg, Marilyn G. Dillard of Jackson and Felicia Jones of Fitler; three grandchildren, Nazi Shamoil of Blytheville, Ark., Jordan Williams of Spanaway and Keshaun Robinson of Jackson, and other relative and friends.
Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Eugene G. Smith
Eugene G. Smith died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 94.
Mr. Smith was a native of West Point and had lived in Vicksburg for more than 67 years. He had worked for Gibson’s Store as an associate, TG&Y for seven years, Mid-South Lumber Company as a sales clerk and retired after 25 years with LeTourneau as a machinist.
He was a member of the Warrenton Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Gattman and Frances Eugenia Henley Smith, and five brothers, Hinton Smith, Lawson Smith, Jasper Smith, Carl “Sonny” Smith and Jap Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Mae Smith; three sons, Eugene F. Smith of Huntsville, Ala., Eddie L. Smith of Vicksburg and Jimmy R. Smith of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra S. Irons of Vicksburg; one brother, Neal Smith of West Point; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Les Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
