This year, party primaries for state and county offices are Aug. 5. The general election will be Nov. 4. The deadline for filing is March 1.

In the other filings, District 23 Sen. Mike Chaney, 59, of Vicksburg, and District 56 Rep. Jep Barbour, 41, of Yazoo City, have filed for new four-year terms.

In another incumbent filing, the state Democratic Party’s Web site shows House District 85 Rep. Chuck Middleton, 43, of Port Gibson will seek re-election.

Masterson, a retired physician who lives in Vicksburg, was first elected after Chaney opted for a Senate run. Chaney served in the House from 1993 until 1999.

Monsour, owner of A&A Enterprises and A&A Vending in Vicksburg, ran unsuccessfully for Warren County District 1 supervisor in 1999.

Barbour, an attorney, is seeking his third term. Middleton, a businessman, is seeking his fifth.

Candidates for countywide and district offices inside Warren County file papers with the Circuit Clerk’s Office. Candidates for statewide and district offices file with the Secretary of State’s Office in Jackson.
