Beginning this month, Vicksburg Video cable customers subscribing to limited basic service will see a 54 percent increase in their monthly bills.
The current limited basic rate is $12.95 a month and will now be $19.95. The limited basic package includes channels 2 through 24.
For customers now paying $36.45 monthly for the standard cable package, which includes 54 channels, the cost is rising to $39.95.
In that package, The Outdoor Channel will be replaced with the FX Channel.
Beau Balch, Vicksburg Video general manager, said the new channel is one requested by customers.
The Outdoor Channel will move to channel 120 and will be available only to digital cable subscribers. The Style network will also to be added to the digital lineup on channel 103.
Cable Guard, which is an insurance policy the company offers to customers to prevent service call charges, will rise from 75 cents to 95 cents a month. Balch said one service call can cost the customer about $17 or $18.
Balch said he understands customers will be upset about the increase.
“The customers aren’t going to like it,” he said. “But the cost of doing business in the U.S. keeps going up.”
Balch said the company, which is owned by WEHCO Video in Little Rock, Ark., raises the charges according to benchmarks set by the Federal Communications Commission.
In addition to its television channels, Vicksburg Video offers high-speed Internet access.
