Charles Mullins Jr.
Charles “Sam” Mullins Jr. died Friday Feb. 7, 2003, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 38.
Mr. Mullins was born in Cleveland and lived in Vicksburg for 32 years. He graduated from Vicksburg High School and served in the Navy. He was a cook for Jacques’ Cafe for 10 years.
He was a member of Berachah Baptist Church.
Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by his father, Charles David Mullins Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Hicks of Vicksburg; and three sisters, Debbie Griffith, Tammy Smith and Josie Williams, all of Vicksburg; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Curry Meeks, Joe Martin, Timmy Jolly, Buddy Irby, Kenny McMaster and Walter Griffith.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Leech, Charles White, Russell White, John Hildbrand, Robert Smith, Jackie Kackley, Charles Massey and Marc Lelonek.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. Services will follow with Brother Roger Creswell officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

George Phillips Sr.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. George Phillips Sr. died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was 99.
Mr. Phillips was a retired auto mechanic in Vicksburg and served in the Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Griffin Phillips; his parents, Wilson and Rosetta Case Phillips; and a brother, Willie Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Pearlean Rush Phillips; a son, George Phillips Jr. of Colorado Springs; a sister, Marlinda Brayer; a stepdaughter, Mozell Roseburrow of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Funeral Home chapel. Services will follow with Trent Phillips and Thalia Phillips officiating. Burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Mary Catherine McMorris Wells
ST. LOUIS Mary Catherine McMorris Wells, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at her home in St. Louis. She was 80.
Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Wells; her parents, the Rev. Albert and Katie Anderson McMorris; and a sister, Margaret Faye Cary.
Survivors include two nephews, Michael Chong Jr., and Garland Cary Jr.; three nieces, Daphene Crumbs, Katie Kimberly Ammons and Shannon Bedsaul; a brother-in-law, Garland Cary Sr.; three great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
Services will be 11 Thursday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Willie Mae Prine
OAK GROVE Willie Mae “Mamie” Prine died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 92.
Mrs. Prine taught school in West Carroll Parish for 25 years and was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she taught Sunday school.
Mrs. Prine was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. Prine; her parents, William Benton and Betty Mae Jones; and two sisters, Jeanette Waters and Hazel Benton.
Survivors include a brother, Ralph Benton of Oak Grove; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Richard Strong, Woody Tyson, Perry Kelly, J.C. Strong, Franz Roka and Mack Calvert.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cox Chapel-Oak Grove with the Revs. James Hayes and William Moden officiating. Burial will be at New Forest Cemetery in Forest, La.
Charlie Steele
BOVINA Charlie Steele died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his home. He was 81.
Mr. Steele lived in Bovina and was a former president of the local chapter of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Bovina.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Steele and George Steele; two daughters, Alice Faye Smith and JoAnn Steele; a sister, Carolina Hilton; and a brother, Sam Steele.
Survivors include his wife, Ledora Walker Steele; three daughters, Hazel Lou Wilson, Hazel Bell Christmas and Retha Mae Clark, all of Vicksburg; two sons, Charlie Steele Jr., of Chicago and Vernon Steele of Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Mary Bolls of Vicksburg; a brother, Isaiah Davis of Detroit; and grandchildren.
