Ethel Davis

NASHVILLE Ethel Davis died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in Nashville. She was 81.

Born in Fayette, Mrs. Davis was a resident of Nashville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Davis; her parents, Harry and Maggie Doss; two sons, Leroy Tenner Sr. and McArthur Davis; a brother, Alex Doss; and a sister, Clora Williams.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice Mayes of Nashville; two sons, Timothy Davis of San Antonio, Texas, and Sidney Davis of Mountville, Pa.; four sisters, Dora Coleman and Mary Lee Fuller, both of Vicksburg, and Sally Culbert and Louise Hunter, both of Fayette; three brothers, J.P. Doss and Julius Doss, both of Fayette, and Harry Doss of New Orleans; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home of Natchez.

Ethel Hopson

ROXIE Ethel Hopson died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Natchez Regional Hospital. She was 54.

A resident of Roxie, Miss. Hopson received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from William Carey College. She was a member of Full Gospel Church in Roxie, the Louisiana Homecare Association, the Nursing Association and the National Health Care Administrators Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah Magee and Hattie Mae Jefferson; a sister, Shirley A. Norris; and a brother, Jaley Jefferson.

Survivors include Richard Hunt of Roxie; two sons, Cedron Joel Hopson of Roxie and Reginald Jefferson of Violet, La.; three brothers, Albert Jefferson, Johnny Jefferson and James Jefferson, all of New Orleans; four sisters, Charlene Smith, Diane Landry, Joann Perkins and Beverly Galloway, all of New Orleans; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Saturday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Kirby, Miss., with Yuanita Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hunt Family Cemetery in Roxie under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Albert Hunt, Marcus Hunt, Corey Hunt, Ivory Hunt, Nathieal Stewart and Quintin Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hunt, Albert Jefferson, Johnny Jefferson, James Jefferson and Kevin Perkins Sr.

Julia Ragan Marley

Services for Julia Ragan Marley will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion M.B. Church, Ballground, with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Marley died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at her home. She was 89.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Marley was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Ballground where she served on the Mother’s Board and the Usher Board. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marley; her parents, Georgia Branch and William Ragan; a brother, Robertic Ragan; and two sisters, Mary Branch and Clora Thornton.

Survivors include a daughter, Ora Lee King of Vicksburg; a grandson, William Miller of Orlando, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Allison Tunstall of Vicksburg, LaJoyce Miller of Orlando and Gerald Miller of Chicago; two great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild; and other relatives, including Gladys Warfield of Vicksburg.

Freddie Lee Powell Sr.

ROLLING FORK Freddie Lee Powell Sr. died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital. He was 38.

A mechanic, Mr. Powell operated a small-engine repair shop for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Powell of Rolling Fork; five sons, Freddie Powell Jr., Kenneth Miles, Cedric Miles, Antonio Miles and Fredric Miles, all of Rolling Fork; one daughter, Jessica Powell of Rolling Fork; his mother, Lillie Mae Powell of Rolling Fork; five brothers, Larry Powell and Bobbie Joe Powell, both of Rolling Fork, Jerry Lee Powell of Jackson, Sammie Lee Powell of Chicago and Curtis Hall of Fairfield, Calif.; and three sisters, Shirley Powell and Velma Warren, both of Rolling Fork, and Dorothy Hall of Kountz, Texas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with Pastor Thomas Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
