Clara Funches Berry
LOS ANGELES Clara Funches Berry, a former Vicksburg resident, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Hawthorne, Calif. She was 65.
Mrs. Berry was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District and was a former employee of Electronic System Programming in Los Angeles. She was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Marie Coleman; her parents, George and Mary Funches; a brother, George Funches Jr.; and three sisters, Hydinia Ross, Katherine Hubbard and Verlean Funches.
Survivors include her husband, James Charles Berry of Los Angeles; one daughter, Diane Ridge of Los Angeles; three stepdaughters, Diane Thomas of Memphis, Birda Ann Amos of Vicksburg and Terry Berry of Los Angeles; two stepsons, Charles Berry Jr. and Carl Berry, both of Los Angeles; two brothers, Robert Funches and LeRoy Willis, both of Long Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Ardella Wall and Burtee Hunt, both of Los Angeles, and Patricia Wright of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Hilliard Berry and Charles Wright, both of Vicksburg.
Services were at noon Monday at Atherton M.B. Church with the Rev. Elbert Cotton officiating.
Angelus Funeral Home in Los Angeles has charge of arrangements.
Ida Lavelle Bradley
OAK GROVE Ida Lavelle Bradley died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove. She was 90.
Born in Brookhaven, Mrs. Bradley was a resident of Oak Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifton Bradley; a daughter, Margaret Jean Bradley McFarlin; her parents, Nick Watts and Estella Watts; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Bradley of Oak Grove and Willis Bradley of Strong, Ark.; three daughters, Doris Bassett and Marilyn Davis, both of Oak Grove, and Betty Jo Jacobs of Baton Rouge; a sister, Ira Butler of Oak Grove; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Kenny Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Eugene B. Brown Jr.
UTICA Eugene B. Brown Jr. died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.
A native of Jefferson Parish, La., Mr. Brown had lived in Utica for the past seven years. He was a retired switchman for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Brown of Utica and Barry Brown of Gulfport; a brother, Kenneth Brown of Ponchatoula, La.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie, La. Burial will follow.
Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Rosie Lee Buchanan
Rosie Lee Buchanan died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 73.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Grove Street M.B. Church and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Buchanan and Rosie Lee Buchanan Williams; and a sister, Lula Gross.
Survivors include three sons, Mose Herron, Lonnie Miller Jr. and Willie Larry Coleman, all of Vicksburg; eight daughters, Edna Campbell, Brenda Martin, Celia Carter, Barbara Williams, Willie Mae Ward, Marilyn Coleman and Leslie Rader, all of Vicksburg, and Fannie Smith of Utica; a brother, Albert Buchanan of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Lee Moore of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Doris Marie Johnson
Doris Marie Johnson died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
Mrs. Johnson was a housewife and a resident of Vicksburg.
Survivors include her husband, Ellis L. “Doc” Johnson; two sons, Mike Johnson of Bristol, Va., and Jerry Johnson of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Lincoln Lirette and Clifton Lirette, both of Houma, La.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Michael’s Catholic Church under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson.
