Sandra Ashley

DELTA Sandra Ashley died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 60.

Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Ashley had been a longtime resident of Delta. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Vicksburg where she was a member of Daughters of the King.

Survivors include her husband, Malcolm Ashley of Delta; two sons, Marvin Ashford Ashley of Delta and Lamar Jackson Ashley of Pearl; a daughter, Wanda Joyce Ashley of Tallulah; two brothers, Russell Hartley of El Dorado, Ark., and Richard Hartley of Bastrop, La.; seven sisters, Mary Wood of Vicksburg, Pat Nordan of Searcy, Ark., Brenda McFall of Philadelphia, Miss., Camelia Perry of Vicksburg, Donna Charlesworth of Houston, Texas, and Tina Allred and Rita Lance, both of Ferriday, La.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. James McFall and Pastor Don Tipton officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Lance, Chris Hartley, Jesse Hartley, Jason Wood, Chad Wallace and Brian Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be A.J. Ashley, Joel Ashley, Johnan Ashley, Marlin Chouccoli, Rob Allred, Michael McFall, Tim Perry and Jeremy White.

Hautense Moore Ferguson

Hautense Moore Ferguson died Monday, March 10, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

Born in Flora, Ms. Ferguson moved to Delta City where she received her education. She later moved to Glen Allan where she worked as a nurse’s aide until her retirement from King’s Daughters Hospital in 1977. She had lived in Hollandale and was a member of Lake Washington Baptist Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Martha Cockrell of New Athens, Ill., Bennie Nell Brown of Vicksburg, Kathryn Hogue of Glen Allan, Myrtle Rea Cooper of Tylertown and Juanita Goodman of Alexandria, La.; three brothers, Ray Moore of Bowden, Ga., Donald Moore of Birmingham, Ala., and James Moore of Moorhead, Miss.; a sister, Shellie Jones of Anguilla; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lake Washington Baptist Church in Glen Allan. Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home in Greenville.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Willie Humes Jr.

Willie Humes Jr. died Monday, March 10, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 71.

Mr. Humes was a resident of Vicksburg and a retired brick mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Humes Sr. and Pearl Reed Humes; and two brothers, Laymon Humes Sr. and Amos Humes.

Survivors include Dorothy Armstrong of Vicksburg; five sons, Willie “Bill” Humes of Merrillville, Ind., Edward Lee Humes and Ronald “Donnie” Humes of Vicksburg, Gregory Humes of San Antonio, Texas, and William Humes of Jackson; four daughters, Barbara Humes Bradsher of Irving, Texas, Yvonne Humes Berry of Chicago, Shirley Humes Young of Jackson and Linda Humes Sweet of Vicksburg; two sisters, Patricia Humes Figures of Chicago and Ester “Sis” Havard of Vicksburg; a brother, Charles Humes of Chicago; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and other relatives including Bernice Humes of Vicksburg and Eunice Polk.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
