Port Gibson residents, from left, Alderman Thomas Russum, Mayor Amelda Arnold, and Rebecca Ritchey, wife of Alderman Robert Ritchey, prepare slices of birthday cake while other residents in the background watch during Port Gibson’s 200th Birthday Ceremony at Port Gibson City Hall Sunday. About 100 people attended the ceremony, which featured music by the Port Gibson Heritage Singers and comments by author Mary H. Ellis, a former Port Gibson resident who has written a book entitled, “Cannonballs and Courage,” about the town’s history. Port Gibson’s bicentennial celebration continues March 29 with the 11th Annual Main Street Heritage Festival.(C. Todd Sherman The Vicksburg Post)
