[03/19/03]A Vicksburg man was shot and killed Tuesday, and his sister’s boyfriend was in jail.
Gregory Fonger, 44, 317 Meadowvale Drive, was shot to death while sitting in a chair in the home he shared with his sister and her boyfriend, Glenn Johnson, 43, said Capt. Mark Culbertson of the Vicksburg Police Department.
Culbertson said initial investigations indicated that Fonger’s sister, whose name was not released, was called on the telephone by Johnson, who told her she needed to go to the house to break up an argument between the two men.
By the time she arrived, Culbertson said, Fonger had been shot in the chest and Johnson had been arrested. The call to E-911 was recorded at 2:38 p.m.
Johnson was charged with murder, Vicksburg Police records show.
Culbertson said he did not know what the two men argued over.
Warren County Deputy Coroner Larry Chisley said an autopsy would be performed at Mississippi Mortuary in Rankin County tonight.
“We will know more after the autopsy,” Chisley said. “But in the preliminary examination it appeared he was shot multiple times in the chest.”
District 2 Supervisor Michael Mayfield, who lives across the street from the Fongers, said neighbors had been aware for some time that a feud was brewing between Fonger and Johnson.
“Greg’s sister came to me last Saturday and asked me to talk to Greg because they were having problems with him,” Mayfield said. “I talked to him about his behavior. Greg was a good guy; there was just bad blood between him and Glenn.”
Johnson was in the Warren County Jail this morning being held without bond.
