Gators lose slugfest, 12-10

[3/9/03]Vicksburg High overcame an early 6-0 deficit Saturday afternoon, but still found itself on the losing end of another slugfest.
Oak Grove rallied to tie the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning, then scored two runs in the ninth to beat the Gators 12-10 in nine innings.
It was the second straight day that Vicksburg scored 10 runs and lost. The Gators (4-2) fell to Clinton 11-10 on Friday.
Paul Gorney went 4-for-4 with four RBIs for Vicksburg, three of them on a fifth-inning home run that tied the game at 7-7
After Oak Grove regained the lead with two runs in the sixth, Gorney came through again with an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
The Gators then took the lead, 10-9, in the bottom of the sixth when Justin Henry stole home on the back end of a double steal with Ben Shelton. Shelton was running for Gorney.
Oak Grove rallied to tie the game again, though, on Marshall Greer’s second sacrifice fly in the seventh. Greer came up big again in the ninth when he delivered an RBI single to score Ryan Norton with the go-ahead run.
