Services for Asia Nicole Lane, infant daughter of Anthony Lane Sr. and Tracey Vanessa Lane of Vicksburg, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Asia died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at River Region Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Leon Williams Sr.; paternal great-grandparent, Alono Lane; and maternal great-grandparents, Johnnie Mae Stewart and Howard Stewart.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Anthony Lane Jr., of Vicksburg; her maternal grandmother, Helena Williams of Vicksburg; her paternal grandparents, Veronica Walker of Vicksburg, Ralston Shedd of Greenville and Ronald Davis of Vicksburg; paternal great-grandparents, Edna Lane of Vicksburg and Mattie Shedd of Greenville; and other relatives.

Corrine Victoria Eggleston Marshall

Services for Corrine Victoria Eggleston Marshall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Robert S. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Mercy Seat M.B. Church Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Marshall died Monday, March 24, 2003, in Vicksburg. She was 93.

Born in Grand Gulf to the late Irvin and Ella Garner-Eggleston, Mrs. Marshall attended the Claiborne County Schools and received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Alcorn A&M College. She taught in Washington County before serving for 30 years with the Warren County Schools. She taught at Hickory Tree, Bovina, Cedars and Kings schools and secured bus service for black youths, becoming the first female bus driver/teacher.

Mrs. Marshall was a member of AARP, the Vicksburg Retired Teachers Association and a lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a former member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Grand Gulf and St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Port Gibson. She was the oldest member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she had served as Sunday school superintendent for more than 40 years. She was on the church’s Official Board, serving as class leader and former treasurer. She was past president of the Missionary Society a member of the Eighth Episcopal Missionary Leaders and a member of the Roselot Sharon Chapter No. 24 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a former member of the Vicksburg Chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of the Alcorn Alumni Association. She was involved with the United Way and Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Marshall; three brothers, Tommy Eggleston, Percy Eggleston and Irvin Eggleston Jr.; and a sister, Georgia Elizabeth Eggleston-Walker.

Survivors include three nephews, Willie Eggleston of Gary, Ind., John Percy Eggleston of Port Gibson and George Henry Walker of Vicksburg; seven nieces, Edna Montgomery and Gladys Neal, both of Port Gibson, Carrie Eggleston of Los Angeles, Betty Eggleston of Inglewood, Calif., Margie Howard of Elizabethtown, Ky., E.E. Keesee of Kankakee, Ill., and Bobbie W. Jackson of Missouri City, Texas; great-nephews; great-nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Joseph H. Scott Marshall

Services for Joseph H. Scott will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Spring Hill M.B. Church, 2015 Grove St., with Evangelist Pamela King officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Scott died Friday, March, 21, 2003, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Medical Center in Jackson. He was 54.

Mr. Scott was a 1966 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and a 1970 graduate of Alcorn State University. He served in the Army in Vietnam and was a member of First Spring Hill M.B. Church, where he was a deacon. He was a member of Tyner-Ford Post No. 213, St. Paul Lodge No. 112 AF&AM, Fidelity Lodge No. 507 and Eta Tau Chapter Omega Psi Phi.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Governor Burns and Willie B. Scott Burns.

Survivors include his wife, Alice W. Scott of Vicksburg; two sons, Christopher Scott of Vicksburg and Dietrich Washington of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Rosalind Scott of Vicksburg and Andrea R. Eatmon of Hohenfels, Germany; a sister, Virginia M. Regan of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Josephine Thomas

ROLLING FORK Josephine “Miss Jo” Thomas died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. She was 83.

Mrs. Thomas was a resident of Rolling Fork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Littleton Thomas Sr.; a daughter, Rebecca Lake; a brother, J.W. Whitfield; and a sister, Willie Lee Butler.

Survivors include five sons, Samuel Giles of Rolling Fork, Alfred Lumpkins and Littleton Thomas Jr., both of Chicago, Ill., Spencer E. Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert E. Thomas of Beaumont, Texas; nine daughters, Lillie Mae Carr of Sallis, Miss., Virginia Turner of Chicago, Betty Reeves of Federal Way, Wash., Venary Nick of Lansing, Mich., Erma Moore of Rolling Fork, Beatrice Jernigan of Hollandale, Miss., Jo Ann Pope of Cleveland, Miss., Linda Harfield of Kansas City, Kan., and Katherine Caldwell of Vicksburg; a sister, Elizabeth Adams of Rolling Fork; a brother, Johnny C. Whitfield of Monticello, Miss., 38 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at South Delta High School Auditorium in Rolling Fork with the Rev. J.H. Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the high school auditorium.
