Lee A. Gaines

Lee A. Gaines died Friday, March 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 91.

A retired employee of BancorpSouth Bank, Mr. Gaines was a member of Gospel Temple M.B. Church. He was a member of Royal Arch Chapel Sunshine Lodge No. 99, King Hiram Grand Lodge and Mount Nebo Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Gaines and Anita Gaines Burbon; two brothers, Roosevelt Gaines and Dave Gaines; and a sister, Viola Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Gaines of Vicksburg; three sons, Ruben Gaines of Dallas, Texas, and Richard Gaines and Lee Gaines Jr., both of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Sadie Gaines Jackson of Vicksburg and Lola Gaines Porter of Vicksburg; two sisters, Sadie Patterson and Azell Jones; an aunt, Rosie Dixon of Fayette; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lillie Holmes

Lillie Holmes died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 85.

A retired Home Laundry and Vicksburg Laundry employee, Mrs. Holmes was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Alberta Williams Draper.

Survivors include her husband, James Holmes of Vicksburg; a daughter, Virgie Keathley of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, the Rev. Sidney T. Draper of Chicago; two sisters, Betty Jackson and Minnie Lindsey, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Cassandra Lorraine Johnson

Cassandra Lorraine Johnson died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 38.

Mrs. Johnson was a former employee of Shady Lawn Nursing Home and Vicksburg Convalescent Home with 18 years of service. She was a 1982 graduate of Hamilton High School in Memphis. She was a member of First Baptist M.B. Church.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her grandparents Joe Roy and Izola Vaughn.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Earl Price of Vicksburg; two sons, Christopher Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, both of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Charlotte Barnes and Ja’Lynsia Price, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Verdell Edwards of Vicksburg; one sister, Demetress Thomas of Dallas, Texas; and other relatives.

Grover Cleveland Lee Sr.

Grover Cleveland Lee Sr. died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 94.

Born in Ludlow, he was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Ludlow and pastor of Long Pine M.B. Church in Ludlow for a number of years. He lived in Vicksburg for 39 years.

Mr. Cleveland was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lee; one daughter, Jessiestine Lee; and two sons, Grover Cleveland Lee Jr., and Arthur J. Lee.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Lee of Vicksburg and Woodie Lee of Chicago; two daughters, Ann Hall of Vicksburg, and Eretha Walker of Chicago; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
