Avance Banks Sr. died today, March 31, 2003, at his home. He was 71.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Banks was retired from the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his father, William T. Banks Sr.

Survivors include a son, Avance Banks Jr.; a daughter, Nicole Cassandra Banks of Buffalo, N.Y.; his mother, Mary Tillman Banks of Vicksburg; four brothers, Peter Banks Sr. of Bossier City, La., William T. Banks Jr. of Vicksburg, Elisha Banks of Grand Island, N.Y., and Brooks Banks of Salis, Mich.; and two sisters, Drucilla Burns of Vicksburg and Darie R. Johnson of Detroit.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Grover Cleveland Lee Sr.

Services for Grover Cleveland Lee Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Lee died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 94.

Born in Ludlow, he was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Ludlow and pastor of Long Pine M.B. Church in Ludlow for years. He lived in Vicksburg for 39 years.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lee; one daughter, Jessiestine Lee; and two sons, Grover Cleveland Lee Jr., and Arthur J. Lee.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Lee of Vicksburg and Woodie Lee of Chicago; two daughters, Ann Hall of Vicksburg, and Eretha Walker of Chicago; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Vernita McCaa Trim

PORT GIBSON Vernita McCaa Trim died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at her home. She was 55.

A native of Arkansas City, Ark., Mrs. Trim spent most of her life in Port Gibson. She was co-owner and manager of Buddy’s Restaurant for many years and was a former employee at Piggly Wiggly. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Claiborne County.

Survivors include her husband, Nick B. Trim of Port Gibson; a son, Ramsey Bailey of Richland, Miss.; a daughter, Robin Andrews of Port Gibson; three stepdaughters, Sarah Balace of Holland, Martha Rainville of Williston, Vt., and Kelly Ortner of Missouri Valley, Iowa; two brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Revs. Toby Jenkins and Michael McKnight officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Purvis, Steve Purvis, Preston Foster, Rodney Ortner, Robert McIlvoy and Mott Headley Jr.
