Lola Anderson

PORT GIBSON Lola “Doll” Anderson died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 68.

Miss Anderson was a Port Gibson resident. She was a church choir member and participated in a number of programs at the Claiborne County Senior Citizens Site.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva Carlisle and David Anderson.

She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clarissa “Frankie” and John Warren of Port Gibson and Rosie Anderson of Chicago; two brothers, Danny Anderson and David Anderson Jr., both of Cleveland, Ohio; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Robinson’s Funeral Home in Moss Point has charge of arrangements.

Squan Devell Edwards

Squan Devell Edwards died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at his home. He was 18.

Squan was a student at Vicksburg High School, where he was a member of the football team, ROTC and Blue Knights Club. He was a member of Greater Jerusalem M.B. Church.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Johnnie and Alicia Edwards of Vicksburg; his mother, Yolanda Thompson; four brothers, Johnnie Devonte Edwards of Vicksburg, Jamond Thompson and Joe Eddie Thompson, both of Port Gibson, and Isiah Thompson; two sisters, Carolyn Edwards of Vicksburg and Yelvena Ellis of Port Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Nancy Jennings of Port Gibson; his paternal grandmother, Carrie Edwards of Port Gibson; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lee A. Gaines

Services for Lee A. Gaines will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home With the Rev. Robert Green officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Gaines died Friday, March 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 91.

A retired employee of BancorpSouth Bank, he was a member of Gospel Temple M.B. Church. He was a member of Royal Arch Chapel Sunshine Lodge No. 99, King Hiram Grand Lodge and Mount Nebo Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Gaines and Anita Gaines Burbon; two brothers, Roosevelt Gaines and Dave Gaines; and two sisters, Viola Fitzgerald and Zadie Patterson.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Gaines of Vicksburg; three sons, Ruben Gaines of Dallas and Richard Gaines and Lee Gaines Jr., both of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Sadie Gaines Jackson and Lola Gaines Porter, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Azell Jones; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Rosie Dixon of Fayette.

Lillie Holmes

Services for Lillie Holmes will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Holmes died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 85.

A retired Home Laundry and Vicksburg Laundry employee, Mrs. Holmes was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Alberta Williams Draper.

Survivors include her husband, James Holmes of Vicksburg; a daughter, Virgie Keathley of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, the Rev. Sidney T. Draper of Chicago; two sisters, Betty Jackson and Minnie Lindsey, both of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
