Ida Ontee Brewer
Ida Ontee Brewer died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
A native of Greene County, Mrs. Brewer had lived in Vicksburg for the past 40 years. She was the daughter of Samuel and Ida Douglas Smith and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester M. Brewer; two sons, Sidney Brewer and Carl J. Brewer; and a granddaughter, Bridget Marie Brewer.
Survivors include Beroy Moore; two daughters, Charlotte Holeman and Shelia K. Beavers, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Webber E. Brewer and Sherman R. Brewer, both of Vicksburg; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel, 5000 Indiana Ave., with the Rev. D. Tony Winkler, pastor of Vicksburg Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Moffett, Sando Newell, Cecil Steele, Jason McKeller, Bill Brewer, Tony Adkinson and Varnie Brewer.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Margaret I. Roush Daffron
FLORA Services for Margaret I. Roush Daffron will be at 3 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Blythe officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be until the service today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Daffron died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at her home in Flora. She was 80.
She lived most of her life in Vicksburg and had lived in Flora for the past five years. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Daffron; and her parents, Ernest and Stella Roush.
Mrs. Daffron is survived by seven daughters, Stella Irene D. Muirhead of Port Gibson, Shirley Elaine D. Proctor of Southaven, Delores Maxine D. Giegerich and Betty Eileen D. Warnock, both of Vicksburg, and Patricia “Pat” Helen D. Perry and Vera Mae D. Climer, both of Flora, and Barbara Ann D. Summerlin of Florence; five sons, James “Jimmy” Arnold Daffron, Martin “Marty” William Daffron and Donald “Donnie” Louis Daffron, all of Vicksburg, Robert Earl Daffron of Eros, La., and Ronald “Ronnie” Cary Daffron of Florence; two sisters, Mildred Allen of Yazoo City and Helen McClure of Houlka; four brothers, Ernest Roush of Clarksdale, Charles Roush and Leland Roush, both of Monroe, La., and Earl Roush of Macon; 40 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be James Daffron, Martin Daffron, Chuck Daffron, Robert Daffron, Ronald Daffron, Charles McLaughlin, Donald Daffron and Tommy McLaughlin.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Lillie Douglas
HINDS COUNTY Lillie “TeeWee” Douglas died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 68.
A former resident of Claiborne County, Ms. Douglas lived in Hinds County. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Josie Douglas; and her grandparents, who reared her, Henry and Lillie Douglas and Harriet and Milligan Newsome.
Survivors include her stepmother, Margaret Douglas of Chicago; and other relatives and friends including Delores Taylor of Jackson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson with T.E. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church.
Willie Mae Marshall Harrison
CHICAGO Services for Willie Mae “Little Sis” Marshall Harrison will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Chicago. Visitation will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Gatling Funeral Home of Chicago is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Harrison died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Chicago. She was 70.
A native and longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Harrison attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and lived in Chicago for many years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Harrison; her parents, Dan and Willie Mae Marshall; and a sister, Willie Bee Marshall.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Harrison of Chicago; a daughter, Mary Harrison of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Lenox Harrison and Douglas Harrison Jr., both of Chicago; a sister, Annie Mae Frazier of Norfolk, Va.; and other relatives, including members of the Marshall, Wince, Pilate, Patterson and Plump families of Vicksburg.
Juanita Christine Jackson
LAKE PROVIDENCE Juanita Christine Jackson died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Lake Providence Sub-Acute Rehab Center. She was 82.
Born in Oak Grove, Mrs. Jackson was a resident of Lake Providence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Richard Jackson; her parents, Patrick Henry Evans and Annie Jane Harper; and two brothers, Gene Evans and Ben L. Evans.
Survivors include a son, Richard Patrick Jackson of Silsbee, Texas; a daughter, Rita Jane George of Bossier City, La.; four brothers, V.L. Evans of Haughton, La., Jack P. Evans of Huntsville, Ala., Alfred Harper of Odessa, Texas, and Albert Harper of Bastrop, La.; five sisters, Earsey Donavan and Verna Donavan, both of Vicksburg, Vett Patton of Zachary, La., Marie Welch of Oak Grove and Reba Schrock of Odessa; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Jimmy Kettleman officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.
Visitation will be today and until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Billie Ione King
Billie Ione King died Friday, April 18, 2003, in Portsmouth, Va. She was 86.
A native of Baskin, La., Mrs. King lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late Elbert Ferguson and Rosa Hilliard Lord. She was a hair dresser and was involved with the United Methodist Women Home Demonstration Club and Catholic Charities. She was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert B. King, and a son, William E. Evans.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Delbridge of Portsmouth, Va.; a brother, R.D. Lord of Baskin; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Speights, Rad Styron, Bobby Matthews, Bob Delbridge and Carroll Laird.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Maples, Louie Land, William Hebler, James R. Evans, Michael W. Evans, Samuel E. Evans and Louis Lord.
