Luther E. Braxton
Luther E. “Boop” Braxton died Friday, April 25, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 81.
Mr. Braxton was born in Shelbyville, Texas, and spent most of his life in Valley Park. He retired from Southern Natural Gas after 31 years and was a World War II veteran.
Mr. Braxton had lived in Vicksburg since 1995 and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lula Stokes Braxton; two brothers, W.L. Braxton and Lee Braxton; and one sister, Fannie Scarber.
Survivors include his wife, Jean R. Braxton of Vicksburg; two daughters, Carol Tatum of Vicksburg and Donna Miller of Thibodaux, La.; one sister, Marjorie Boler of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m Monday at First United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. D.W. Tipton and Adelbert Adcock officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 until 5 this afternoon at Glenwood Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Braxton, Lynn Braxton, Jimmy Braxton, Tracy Braxton, Robbie Braxton, R.E. Coker, Landon Fields and Josh Warnock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Treves Cooper, J.M. Barnett, Pat Pickle, O.C. “Shorty” Ivy, Wayne Box, Billy Tolar, Walter Catledge, Ford Norris, T.A. Heath, Clifford Wilson, Bobby Johnson, Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. Duncan Donald and Dr. Chris Jackson.
Rosalene Morrison Clifton
CLINTON Rosalene Morrison Clifton died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at her home in Clinton. She was 61.
Ms. Clifton was born in Utica and graduated from Utica High School. She received a bachelor of arts degree and a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi. She lived a number of years in Memphis, where she taught at Westwood High School and the University of Memphis and was coordinator of the cooperative education program at Shelby State College.
Ms. Clifton moved to Clinton in 1987 and taught at Oakley Training School. She was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Clifton of Madison and Jason Clifton of Clinton; and one brother, Donald B. Morrison of Jackson.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Utica United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Bert Craft, Larry Kitchens, Joe Ferguson, M.B. Heard, David Ross, Nick Kooke and Sam Newman.

Arnold Brent Cosby
Arnold Brent Cosby died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 44.
Mr. Cosby was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cosby; a son, Christopher Cosby; a daughter Brittany Cosby; his parents, Aaron Cosby and Ernestine Miller Cosby of Vicksburg; four brothers, Aaron Cosby Jr. of Edwards and Milton Cosby, Benny Cosby and Hyman Cosby, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Annie Smith and Margaret J. Passon, both of Vicksburg, Selena C. Reed of Belzoni and Margie J. Camda of New Orleans; an aunt, Hazel Edwards of LaPlante, Calif., and nieces, nephews and cousins.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Hedy B. Hearn
Hedy B. Hearn died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 77.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg and Warren County, Mrs. Hearn owned Hearn’s Store for 18 years before retiring in 1970.
She was a member of Warrenton Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. “Sambo” Hearn; her parents, Thomas Alonzo and Nannie Matilda Slater Powell; a sister, Evie Ione Hearn; two brothers, Harry Murray Powell and George Thomas Powell.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Beauman of Vicksburg; a son, Gerald Dean Hearn of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. Les Ferguson and Tony Lolly officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 5 this afternoon at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lee Beauman, Dean Hearn Jr., Dale Hearn, Cody Ashley, Tony Jordan, Sonny Mathes and Michael Beauman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Powell, James Howard, Robert Lee, Jessie Brent, Billy Brent, Harvey Hearn, William Hearn, Anthony Hearn, Douglas Hearn and Hank Hearn.
Roland Peter Quirk Sr.
Roland Peter Quirk Sr. died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at his home in Slidell, La. He was 63.
Mr. Quirk was born in Eunice, La., and was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg. He served in the Army and retired as an Army supply warehouse manager at Cameron Station in Alexandria, Va. He was also affiliated with Safeway Inc. in Springfield, Va., and was a member of the Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Atwood Stephen Quirk Sr. and Ethel Mary Burns Quirk.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Gharib of Lorton, Va., and Brenda Thomas of Thornburg, Va.; two sons, Roland Peter Quirk Jr. of Selville, Fla., and Daniel Quirk of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, Atwood S. Quirk Jr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Ethel Quirk of Pensacola, Fla., and Doris Collins of West Monroe, La., and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Patrick Farrell, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Riles Funeral Home.
