Richard M. Field

TALLULAH Richard M. Field died Monday, May 5, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.

Born in Yazoo City, Mr. Field lived a number of years in Vicksburg, where he attended St. Aloysius and graduated with honors from Culkin Academy. He retired as a major from the Army after serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.

Mr. Field became director of personnel at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and later, in Gulfport and Biloxi. He returned to Vicksburg in 1995 and attended Catholic and Methodist churches.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Amanda Field of Tallulah; a son, Richard J. Field of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Dorothy Inman of Ocean Springs and Patricia Doehr of Shreveport, La.; a stepdaughter, Pat Caldwell of Tallulah; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and others including, James D. “Buddy” Caldwell of Tallulah and Judy Paxton of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McGrew officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Blanford B. Gilbert

CARPENTER Blanford B. Gilbert died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his home in Carpenter. He was 99.

Mr. Gilbert was a retired Utica merchant. He was a member of Carpenter United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett Gilbert, Henry B. Gilbert and John Wesley Gilbert.

He is survived by a brother, Leroy Gilbert of Utica; two sisters, Minnie Grace Payne and Dorris Chapman, both of Utica; and a nephew, Ray Gilbert of Utica.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter United Methodist Church with the Revs. Rob Hill and Bill Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Carpenter Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica and from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Dan Mobley, Bob Curtis, Bobby Neill, Earl Price, Ellis Strong and Murray Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Yates, Noel McKey, Dorsey Longmire, Allen Burrell and Greg Kitchens.

Memorials may be made to Carpenter Cemetery, 226 Carpenter St., Utica, MS 39175.

Mattie Lou Lindsey

CARY Mattie Lou Lindsey died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.

A homemaker, Mrs. Lindsey was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Brown and Daisy Mae Williams-Brown; three brothers, Fred Brown, Eddie Brown and Robert Brown; and two sisters, Minnie Brown and Mary Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Senior Lindsey Sr. of Cary; six sons, Senior Lindsey Jr. of Jackson, James Lindsey and Rodney Lindsey, both of Vicksburg, Willie Joe Lindsey and Patrick Lindsey, both of Cary, and Randy Lindsey of Brookhaven; three daughters, Mattie R. Lindsey and Linda Davis, both of Cary, and Shirley M. Lindsey of Vicksburg; two brothers, Noria Brown of Cary and David Brown of Los Angeles; four sisters, Rose Ella Brown of Cary, Eunice Miller and Annie McConnell, both of Vicksburg, and Daisy Warren of New Orleans; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ronald Tracy Nichols Sr.

LIMA, Ohio Ronald Tracy Nichols Sr. died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Lima Manor Nursing Home in Lima, Ohio. He was 41.

A resident of Lima, Mr. Nichols was a member of Fourth Street M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Nichols; his parents, Will T. Nichols Sr. and Dorothy Mae Ursin Nichols; and a sister, Tonya Nichols.

Survivors include his wife, Nicole L. Cotton of Lima; a son, Ronald T. Nichols Jr. of New Orleans; three daughters, Christy Hall of New Orleans, Katherine Nichols of Florence, Ala., and Michele L. Nichols of Lima; two stepdaughters, Nakia Cotton and Shonta Cotton, both of Lima; five brothers, Tyrone Nichols, Will T. Nichols Jr., and Quentin Nichols, all of Lima, and Kelvin Nichols and Kevin Nichols, both of New Orleans; a sister, Michele Wilson of New Orleans; and relatives in Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fourth Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Earnest Stephens Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Jones-Clark Funeral Home in Lima.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Gene Richards

Gene Richards died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his home. He was 75.

Born in Memphis, Mr. Richards had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1951. He served in the Navy during World War II and retired from the Illinois Central Railroad after 41 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Richards; and a daughter, Alana Richards.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Richards and David Richards, both of Vicksburg; a brother, John Richards of Vicksburg; a sister, Ann Richards of Fayette; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Richards, Dale McDuff, Paul Richards, Jay McKenzie, Tommy Wilson and Tony Davidson.
