Barba Nell Alston

FAYETTE Barba Nell Alston died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was 61.

A resident of Fayette, Ms. Alston was a housewife and member of Rose Hill Baptist Church No. 2.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark Middleton and Bettie Mae Jackson; a sister, Dorothy Mae Middleton; and a brother, Robert Middleton.

Survivors include a brother, Judge Kennie Middleton of Fayette; a sister, Raye Parker of Portland, Ore.; and other relatives and friends, including Claudine Middleton of Fayette.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Old Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. John Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 tonight in the chapel at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Clyde Larry Goodwin

TALLULAH Clyde Larry Goodwin died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 57.

Born in St. Joseph, Mr. Goodwin had lived in Madison Parish for 23 years. He was a police officer with the Department of Transportation and Development, Weights and Standards and an Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Church of Christ and American Legion Post No. 100.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pillars Goodwin of Tallulah; a son, James H. Foster II of Tallulah; a daughter, Cynthia Eppinette of Tallulah; two sisters, Carol Perry and Kathy Perry, both of Delhi; two brothers, Johnny Pillars and Terry Pillars, both of Darnell; and a grandson, Emmitt Eppinette of Tallulah.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilfred Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be O’Neal Perry, Ernie Perry, Brian Perry, Brad Perry, Donald Goodwin, Ronald Goodwin, Tyrell Jacobs and Chad Ezell.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Weights and Standards.

Mattie West

Mattie “Bettie” West died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 98.

Born in Lexington, Miss., Mrs. West had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 70 years. She was a retired seamstress for the Hub Men’s Store and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. West; a son, Gerald Glenn West; a daughter, Edith Irene Tramel; a grandson, Winston Tramel; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Van Norman of Vicksburg and Martha Madden of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, James Stevens of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Van Norman, Jimmy Madden, Glenn Cappel and Clyde McKinney.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Loyal Ladies Sunday school class of Woodlawn Baptist Church, the Woodlawn Senior Saints, the staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Dr. Russell Barnes and Dr. Joe Ross.

Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church.
