Irene Alma Judge

CLINTON, Iowa Irene Alma Judge, formerly of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, Iowa. She was 90.

Born in Clinton, Iowa, Mrs. Judge was a homemaker. She was a dietary aide at the Alverno Health Care Facility for many years and was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Parish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Larken Judge; her parents, Otto and Clara Huebner; four brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include two sons, Robert “Bob” Judge of Clinton and Jerome “Joe” Judge of Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Rosella “Rosie” Wentworth of Camanche, Iowa and Mary Clare Harmon of Vicksburg; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Clinton Chapel at Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Parish.

Susie Newsome

PORT GIBSON Susie Newsome died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 68.

Mrs. Newsome was a member of Church of Christ Holiness USA. She was employed at the Port Gibson Box Factory for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Hyder and Marie Slater-Hyder.

She is survived by her husband, Chester Newsome of Port Gibson; two sons, Willie Bingham of Memphis and Danny Hyder of Vicksburg; five daughters, Marie Claiborne, Catherine Porter and Selena Newsome, all of Port Gibson, Linda Terry of Jackson and Shirley Ziegler of Accokeek, Md.; eight brothers, Eddie Lee Hyder, Henry Hyder, Isaac Hyder, Alfred Hyder, Melvin Hyder, Louis Hyder, Roosevelt Hyder and Johnny Watson, all of Port Gibson; five sisters, Lillian Hyder, Mary Ann Hyder, Mildred Hyder, Katie Branch and Willie Beatrice Farmer, all of Port Gibson; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Revs. Howard Batchelor and James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Clark Creek Cemetery in Pattison.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Essex O’Quinn

HERMANVILLE Essex O’Quinn died Friday, May 9, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 64.

Mr. O’Quinn was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by Carrie “Duck” Trevillion of Hermanville; a son, Arthur Newell of Pattison; a daughter, Alice Moody of Hermanville; six stepsons, Lafayette Wells and Terry Trevillion, both of Port Gibson, James Wells of Tillman, Ronnie Trevillion of Vicksburg, Samuel Warner and Willie Trevillion, both of Hermanville; three stepdaughters, Mary Ann Warner of Pattison and Ruth Wells and Stephanie Odoms, both of Hermanville; a brother, Oren O’Quinn of Port Gibson; 40 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Shandella Wade of Hermanville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shady Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Horace McBride officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Elias Winfield Jr.

Services for Elias Winfield Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Winfield died Monday, May 12, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 91.

Mr. Winfield was born in Union Church and was retired from Anderson-Tully Lumber Mill. He was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Rose Mary Brown Winfield and Maude Winfield; his parents, Elias Winfield Sr. and Nellie Gibson Winfield; a brother, Fred Winfield; and a son, James E. Winfield Sr.

He is survived by the mother of his son, Gertrude Winfield Green; a daughter-in-law, Dr. Linda E. Winfield of Vicksburg; two brothers, Nathan Winfield of Port Gibson and Theodore Winfield of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Jessie B. Hall of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, James E. Winfield Jr. of Austin, Texas, Paul E. Winfield of Vicksburg and Michael E. Winfield of Clinton; and four great-grandchildren.
