Elon Townsend Ashcraft

OAK GROVE Elon Townsend Ashcraft died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 89.

Mrs. Ashcraft was a longtime resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steen and Lula Gray Townsend; her husband, Roy Lee Ashcraft; four brothers, Guy Townsend, Clyde Townsend, Carl Townsend and Nelson Townsend; and a granddaughter, Leah Ashcraft Adcock.

She is survived by a son, Doyle Ashcraft of Calico Rock, Ark.; two daughters, Jean Whitney of Oak Grove and Joyce Smith of Lake Providence; one brother, Roger Townsend of Oak Grove; and eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Pallbearers will be Willie Capers, Phil White, David Ratcliff, Gary Townsend, Dennis Townsend, Paul Roberts, David Bonner and Danny Creech.

W.J. Husbands

W.J. Husbands died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Vicksburg Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 91.

A native of Utica, Mr. Husbands had lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He was a self-employed cattle farmer and owned the Warren County Water Service for a number of years. He was a member of the Vicksburg Moose Lodge and Goodrum Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Barnes Husbands of Vicksburg; one daughter, Jeri Gartman of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vaudell B. Stevens

ANGUILLA Vaudell B. Stevens died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at her home in Anguilla. She was 92.

A native of Fayette, Ala., Mrs. Stevens had lived in Sharkey County for most of her life. She was a retired insurance clerk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.B. Stevens; and a son, H.C. “Juicy” Stevens.

Survivors include a son, William A. Stevens of Rolling Fork; and one sister, Pauline Thornton of Anguilla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Anguilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Milner officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Sally A. Werner

VALLEY PARK, Mo. Sally A. Werner died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Jewish Hospital of St. Louis. She was 59.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., Ms. Werner was a resident of Valley Park, Mo. She worked at Barnes Jewish Hospital for more than 30 years and was a member of Affton Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Paul and Audrey Penley Werner.

Survivors include two aunts, Vivian P. Hilderbrand and Sara P. McCaskill; and relatives in Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Kutis Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
