Pete Maher

VIDALIA, La. Pete Maher died Monday, May 19, 2003, at LSU Medical Center in Monroe, La. He was 63.

Born in Jefferson County to the late Bonnie and Alma Smith Maher, Mr. Maher was a long-time resident of Concordia Parish, La., and was a member of I.B.E.W.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Maher and Audrey Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Maher of Vidalia, La.; two daughters, Sandy Peterson and Christina Lee, both of Vidalia; two sisters, Louise Southerland Steen of Lorman and Nell Ashley of Meadville, Miss.; a brother, Bonnie Maher of Lorman; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives, including Droopy Brown of Natchez.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home, Union Street Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Union Church Cemetery in Union Church.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Jesse Lee McGloster

Services for Jesse Lee McGloster will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kemp Burley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Wright Cemetery.

Mr. McGloster died Monday, May 19, 2003, at his home. He was 54.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. McGloster was an Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse McGloster and Lizzie Bland McGloster; a brother, Clarence McGloster; and his grandparents, Nellie Dorsey and Pete Bland.

Survivors include two daughters, Nicole McGloster of Vicksburg and Elease McCullum of Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Lucius Jackson Jr. of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary McGloster of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Susie Lacy and Mary McCalpin, both of Vicksburg, and Atline Bailey of Russum, Miss.

Helen Branciere Nichols

Helen Branciere Nichols died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Nichols was a 1940 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy. She was retired, having worked from 1941 until 1944 for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. She was a personnel clerk with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1944 until 1974.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, serving as supervisor of purchasing and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, former Warren County Court Judge James E. Nichols; a brother, John Branciere; and her parents, Rosa and Andrew Branciere.

She is survived by an aunt, Mathile Scardovi of Vicksburg; two sons, Rodney Nichols of Ocean Springs and Larry Nichols of Meridian; four grandchildren, James J. Nichols, Kelly Nichols, Gracie Nichols and Noel Nichols; and a stepgrandson, Corey Barnhill.

A funeral Mass will be said at noon Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. Friday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Andy Branciere, David Wood, Dennis Wood, Craig Mayer, James J. Nichols, Mike Jones, Jay Angelo and Wally DeRossette.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Culkin, Lucius Dabney, John Tompkins, Mark Chaney, Dr. Susan Chiarito and members of the St. Paul Altar Society.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
