Rev. Aubrey D. Foster

GEORGETOWN, La. The Rev. Aubrey D. Foster of Georgetown, La., died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, La. He was 76.

Born in Rochelle, La., Rev. Foster was a Navy veteran of World War II. He held a master’s degree in education and biology and a bachelor of arts degree in theology. He was a Baptist minister having served in churches in Jonesboro, La., Gainsville, La., Colfax, La., Bienville, La., Newellton, and St. Joseph. He was a retired educator who served as principal of Waterproof and Newellton high schools and was a member of the Louisiana Education Association for 25 years.

Rev. Foster was a member of the American Legion and the Rotary Club. He served as scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts for over 20 years and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was manager of the Tensas Cemetery Association in Newellton for more than 26 years and was elected Rural Minister of the Year for the state of Louisiana.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Quinn Foster of Georgetown; three sons, Larry Wayne Foster of Newellton, Danny Ray Foster of Monroe, La., and Robin Denson Foster of New Rhodes, La.; a stepdaughter, Markita M. Russell of Bossier City, La.; a brother, Jerry Ellis Foster of Hammond, La.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Georgetown Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffin officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton with the Rev. J. Fulton McGraw officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Newellton.

Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Larry Foster, Danny Foster, Robin Foster, Wade Foster, Casey Foster and Jason Russell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry E. Foster, Cody Foster and Neil H. May.

James Milsap

LOUISE James Milsap of Louise died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. He was 73.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Milsap and James Milsap, both of Holly Bluff; three daughters, Essie McCrite of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Dorothy Griles and Ida Watkins, both of Holly Bluff; a brother, Melvin Milsap of Heidelburg; four sisters, Essie C. Meyers of Woodville, Gracie Johnson of Holly Bluff, Florine Langston of Chicago and Bessie Jones of Joliet, Ill.; and 30 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Camalville Baptist Church in Holly Bluff with Andrew Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Holly Bluff under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

George Stewart Sr.

FAYETTE George Stewart Sr. died Saturday, May 17, 2003, in Union Church as the result of an automobile accident. He was 55.

A resident of Fayette, Mr. Stewart was a retired foreman with Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association and a member of Mount Mariah Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Frank Amos; three brothers, Kenny Stewart, Carl Stewart and Tim Stewart; and a sister, Gloria Mae Stewart.

Survivors include his mother, Olivia Stewart of Vicksburg; four sons, George Stewart Jr. and Joseph Stewart, both of Fayette, Glenn Stewart of New Orleans and Ricky Hammette of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven brothers, Roy Stewart and Bill Stewart, both of Saginaw, Mich., Phillip Stewart of Vicksburg, Dan Amos of Moss Point, Miss., Willie Amos and Johnny Amos, both of Houston, Texas, and John Amos of Union Church; eight sisters, Mary Marshall and Dorothy Stewart, both of Vicksburg, Carrie Miller of Utica, Nancy Amos, Lillie Owens and Eva Curry, all of Bryan, Texas, Ida Pearl Phillips of Franklin, Texas, and Dorothy Amos of Union Church; 12 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Sunday at Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Union Church with the Rev. Elmo Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Block Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Stewart, Travis Stewart, Robert Fleming, Eddie Stewart, Lee Miller and Sammie Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Stewart Jr., Glenn Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Ricky Hammette, Clifton Stewart, Roy Stewart, Bill Stewart, John Amos and Phillip Stewart.

Rosie Lee Carter Turner

Services for Rosie Lee “Rose” Carter Turner will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 409 Boy Scout Road, with Robert Collier officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Turner died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 41.

She was born in Vicksburg to the late James Jerry Carter Sr. and Vera Marie Sykes Carter. She graduated from Warren Central High School and Hinds Community College School of Nursing.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness and was employed with Trace Haven Nursing Home.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Turner; a son, Timothy Leon Turner of Vicksburg; a daughter, Tiffany LeOnjala Turner of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Demetris “DeeDee” Neal of Vicksburg; three sisters, Joan Carter Davis, Jeanette Carter Peters and Sirlinar Carter Sutton, all of Vicksburg; five brothers, James Carter Jr., Edwin Carter, Curtis Carter and Carl Carter, all of Vicksburg, and Charles Carter of Greensboro, N.C.; three stepgrandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
