Doris Marie Dee Cason

PORT GIBSON Services for Doris Marie Dee Cason will be at 1 p.m. today at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon until the services today at the church.

Mrs. Cason died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at her home in Jackson, Mich. She was 59.

She was the daughter of the late Martha Alice Dee-Williams and John Knight. She was a member of Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson and Southside Baptist Church in Jackson.

She attended Claiborne County Schools and Alcorn A&M College, where she received a degree in elementary education. She received a master’s degree from Michigan State University and worked as a teacher in Mississippi and Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard C. Dee; and her stepfather, Solomon J. Williams.

Survivors include her grandmother, Mary Ella Dee of Port Gibson; three sisters, Darleen Williams and Mosie L. Piazza, both of Port Gibson, and Lillie King of Compton, Calif.; two brothers, Oliver W. Williams and Cardell Williams, both of Port Gibson; and nieces, nephews, aunts, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Matthews

MERIDIAN Dorothy Matthews died Friday, May 23, 2003, at her residence in Meridian. She was 80.

Matthews was a homemaker and a member of First Church of God in Meridian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Matthews; her parents, Roy and Ruby King; a sister, Edith Marie King; and two brothers, Billy Ray King and Roy King, Jr.

Survivors include three sisters, Marie Phillips of Ft. Smith, Ark., Adelle Marler of Vicksburg, and Joyce Nunnery of Alvin, Texas; a brother, Richard King of Okla.; 22 nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Barham Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetry in Meridian.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today at Barham Funeral Home.

Naomi Henderson McCollough

Naomi “Nan” Henderson McCollough died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 57.

Mrs. McCollough was a member of Greater Mount Olive M.B. Church. She was a nurse at River Region and an Army veteran.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. J.H. Henderson and Willie Mae Green Henderson; and a brother, W.W. Henderson.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd McCollough of Vicksburg; a son, Anthony Parker of Memphis; two brothers, Larry Henderson and Arthur Henderson, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Julia Henderson and Carlene Henderson, both of Vicksburg, and Vinette Henderson of Tallulah; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Arley Kennard Walters

Arley Kennard Walters died Friday, May 23, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 88.

Born in Columbia, Tenn., Mr. Walters was the son of Joseph W. and Retha Jarrett Walters. He was a longtime resident of Blytheville, Ark., and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 12 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Italy, France and Germany and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a retired carpenter and deputy sheriff.

Mr. Walters was a member of the Masonic Order and Wilderness Baptist Church in Vicksburg. He was a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blytheville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Duncan Walters; and a son, Robert Allen Walters.

Survivors include four daughters, Alvenia Walters Cheatham of Hot Springs, Ark., Jo Ann Walters Sherman of Wynn, Ark., Carla Walters Conrad of Vicksburg and Teresa Walters King of Edmond, Okla.; a son, Billy Joe Walters of Denham Springs, La.; a brother, Horace Walters of Sikeston, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Blytheville, Ark. Burial will follow.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Riles Funeral Home.
