Ike C. Manning
WEST MONROE, La. Ike C. Manning died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Monroe, La. He was 91.
Mr. Manning owned and operated The Pig restaurant in Delhi in the 1950s. He worked as a Green Brothers’ milkman before retiring. He was a resident of Delhi before moving to West Monroe in 1997.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Delhi.
He is survived by his wife, Marion C. Manning of West Monroe; a daughter, Dorothy Manning of West Monroe; two sons, Willard Manning of West Monroe and David Manning of Alexandria, La.; one sister, Sybil Burrow of Delhi; and seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday First Baptist Church in Delhi with the Rev. Marcus Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.
Pallbearers will be Bill Skipper, Bobby Gates, Jimmy Skipper, Jim Free, Don Cheek and Grady Welch.
James Greshan Strong, Joseph Miller Strong
OAK GROVE James Greshan Strong and Joseph Miller Strong, infant twin sons of Richard M. and Dena LaShea Strong of Oak Grove, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
In addition to their parents, they are survived by a brother, Seth Strong of Oak Grove; a sister, Mary Caitlyn Strong of Oak Grove; maternal grandparents, Arnold and Maureen Parker of Grayson, La.; paternal grandparents, Richard and Mattie Rae Strong of Oak Grove; and great-grandparents, Artis and Rose Mary Thompson of Grayson and Sybil Strong of Oak Grove.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jason Strong officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.
Ruby Wilkerson
Ruby Wilkerson died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 82.
A homemaker, Mrs. Wilkerson was born in St. Paul, Minn. She was a member of Providence M.B. Church, where she was a former secretary.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Jenkins; her mother, Mildred Jenkins Hobbs; three brothers, James D. Jenkins, Sonny Randall and Edward Randall; and a sister, Catherine Jenkins.
Survivors include her husband, Garfield Wilkerson of Vicksburg; three sons, Joseph B. Giles and James B. Giles, both of Vicksburg, and Monroe Giles of Stockton, Calif.; three daughters, Myrtle Adams and Theresa Tillman, both of Vicksburg, and Sterling Peggins of Memphis; two brothers, Grady Randall and Donald Randall, both of St. Paul; two sisters, Geraldine Williams and Dorothy Robinson, both of St. Paul; and 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Lubertha Lee Williams
Lubertha Lee Williams died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Miss. She was 91.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Williams was a retired cook for Mississippi Action for Progress Inc.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Williams Sr.; five sons, Willie L. Johnson, Eddie Williams Jr., Ruben Williams Sr., John A. Williams and Alandress Williams; and a daughter, Edith L. Parker.
Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Williams of Los Angeles and Charles L. Williams of Vicksburg; five daughters, Hattie P. Strong of Vallejo, Calif., Georgiana Williams of Compton, Calif., Mary E. Jenkins of Vicksburg and Hazel L. Williams and Shirley Harrison, both of Jackson; two brothers, Alandress Gardner Sr. of Gary, Ind., and John A. Gardner Jr. of Muskegon, Mich.; a sister, Lucille Riley of Merriville, Ind.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
