James Albert Phillips

OAK GROVE James Albert Phillips died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 69.

Born in Lafayette County, Ark., Mr. Phillips was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank James Phillips and Mary Elizabeth Phillips; and a brother, Johnny Ray Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Phillips of Oak Grove; three daughters, Susan Woods of Stonewall, La., Barbara Phillips of Oak Grove and Lulu Thompson of Pioneer; a son, Rodger Phillips of Bastrop, La.; a brother, Arthur Franklin Phillips of Pioneer; a sister, Nannie Bell Kellum of Avery, Texas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Annie Mae Farmer and Bobby Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Redwing Cemetery.

Visitation will be until the service today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Thomas “Bear” Driver, Jeff Compton, Ricky Compton, Mitchell “Boo” Dye, Ricky Brister and Keith McCall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Sykes and Craig Freeman.

Patricia J. Scott

Patricia J. Scott died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 55.

Born and reared in Vicksburg, Ms. Scott graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School with honors. She received bachelor of science degrees from Alcorn and Jackson state universities. She was the founder and owner of Little People’s Learning Center.

Ms. Scott was a member of the Vicksburg Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Les Belle Amie Social and Civic Club, Rivera Heights Association and the Vicksburg Chapter of Alcorn State University Alumni Association. She was a former member of the Vicksburg Chapter of Links Inc., American Legion Auxiliary Unit 213, Negro Business & Professional Women’s club and professional child-care organizations.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Monroe.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Scott of Vicksburg; a daughter, Rosalind Scott of Vicksburg; her parents, Walter and Katie Jones, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Walter Jones Jr. of Jackson, Donnie Granberry of El Paso, Texas, and Roy Ligon of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Paula Clark of Vicksburg and Kimberly Chandler of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and other relatives, including Virginia Moore, D’Army Jones and Rene Titus, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium with the Rev. Leonard Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service Saturday at the auditorium.

Ruby Wilkerson

Services for Ruby Wilkerson will be at noon Saturday at Providence M.B. Church with the Rev. Earl Cosey officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Wilkerson died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 82.

A homemaker, Mrs. Wilkerson was born in St. Paul, Minn. She was a member of Providence M.B. Church, where she was a former secretary.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Jenkins; her mother, Mildred Jenkins Hobbs; three brothers, James D. Jenkins, Sonny Randall and Edward Randall; and a sister, Catherine Jenkins.

Survivors include her husband, Garfield Wilkerson of Vicksburg; three sons, Joseph B. Giles and James B. Giles, both of Vicksburg, and Monroe Giles of Stockton, Calif.; three daughters, Myrtle Adams and Theresa Tillman, both of Vicksburg, and Sterling Peggins of Memphis; two brothers, Grady Randall and Donald Randall, both of St. Paul; two sisters, Geraldine Williams and Dorothy Robinson, both of St. Paul; and 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lubertha Lee Williams

Services for Lubertha Lee Williams will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley M.B. church with the Rev. Alex Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 91.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Williams was a retired cook for Mississippi Action for Progress Inc.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Williams Sr.; five sons, Willie L. Johnson, Eddie Williams Jr., Ruben Williams Sr., John A. Williams and Alandress Williams; and a daughter, Edith L. Parker.

Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Williams of Los Angeles and Charles L. Williams of Vicksburg; five daughters, Hattie P. Strong of Vallejo, Calif., Georgiana Williams of Compton, Calif., Mary E. Jenkins of Vicksburg and Hazel L. Williams and Shirley Harrison, both of Jackson; two brothers, Alandress Gardner Sr. of Gary, Ind., and John A. Gardner Jr. of Muskegon, Mich.; a sister, Lucille Riley of Merriville, Ind.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
