Lady Vikes win two, will play for gold today

[6/29/03]The Warren Central girls basketball team will shoot for its first medal since 1994 in today’s semifinals and finals at the State Games.
The Lady Vikes finished pool play with a perfect 4-0 record with wins over Northeast Lauderdale, 37-32, and against West Lauderdale, 37-32. West Lauderdale entered the final game of pool play undefeated as well.
Warren Central will play Newton at 9 a.m., and with a win will play the winner of the Choctaw Central-Meridian game for the gold medal.
Cookie Johnson and Carla Latham each scored nine points, and Ebon Williams netted six in the win over West Lauderdale.
In the opener, Williams scored 10 points, while Johnson and Saleda Montgomery added seven each in the win.
In 1994, Warren Central’s girls won the silver medal after losing in the championship game to Meridian. That same year, WC’s boys won the gold medal.
