Lizzie Clifton

Services for Lizzie “Tutch” Clifton will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Robbins Funeral Home with the Rev. R.V. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home all day Sunday and until the hour of the service Monday.

Mrs. Clifton died Tuesday, July 1, 2003. She was 90.

She belonged to the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by her husband, William Washington.

She is survived by her sister, Doreatha Hardy Jordan of Vicksburg; five nephews, Arthur Jordan, Robert Jordan, Henry Jordan, James Jordan and Andrew Jordan, all of Vicksburg; five nieces, Walterine De Bouse, Mary Huntley, Rosie Jordan, Doreatha Ross and Annie Ross, all of Vicksburg; great-nieces and -nephews; and Lois Brown and Essex Brandon, both of Vicksburg.

Bessie Howard

Services for Bessie Howard will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill Baptist church with the Rev. Walter Weathersby officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be today at Robbins Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and a wake will be from 7 until 8 tonight.

Mrs. Howard died Sunday, June 29, 2003. She was 73.

Mrs. Howard retired as a housekeeper at Mercy Hospital. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where she was a Mother of the Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Revel Howard; a daughter, Mizella Cook; and two brothers.

Survivors are five sons, John L. Nixon, Allen Price, Norman Price, Roy N. Nixon and Jerome W. Nixon, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Jessie Mae Johnson of Vicksburg and Joe Ann Reese of Detroit; a sister, Ida Mae Bingham of Vicksburg; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Brize A. Scott

Services for Brize A. Scott will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Vicksburg City Auditorium. Burial will follow at Mount Pilgrim Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Scott died Monday, June 30, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 39.

Mrs. Scott was a member of Grove Street M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Yarbrough III; a daughter, Brenda Yarbrough; her maternal grandparents, Willie and Emily Tanner; and her paternal grandmother, Brize Tigue.

She is survived by her mother, Willie Yarbrough of Vicksburg; two sons, L.J. Scott and Michael J. Scott, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Debra Kent of Vicksburg; her paternal grandfather, John T. Yarbrough II of Memphis; and other relatives and friends, including J.T. Kent of Vicksburg, Tracy Kent of Vicksburg, Annie Mary Tigue of Memphis and Corine Elam of Yosilanti, Mich.

Bryan Howard Swett Jr.

Bryan Howard Swett Jr. of Vicksburg died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Regent Care Center of The Woodlands, Texas. He was 77.

Mr. Swett was a native of Vicksburg. He was the son of the late Bryan Howard and Marjorie Williamson Swett. He was a 1944 graduate of Culkin School. He was in the Navy from 1944 until 1946. He retired after 39 years with BellSouth and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Mr. Swett was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, William H. Stevens Masonic Lodge and with the Shriners and Wahabi Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Margarette Swett of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lynn Lee Swett Gerhardt of The Woodlands; a granddaughter, Lindsey Lee Gerhardt of The Woodlands; a brother, Sam Swett of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a sister, Marjorie Zagorski of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Victor Bircher officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Newell Bradston, Jim Horan, Joe Leist, Jack Hammond Leist, Bryan Brabston and Dr. James Price.

Honorary pallbearers will be Easy Biedenharn, John Crevitt, Charles Stevens, Phil Irwin, Marion Dale Beasley, George Culkin, George Byars, Troy Goss, Purvis Hoben, Curtis Brewer and David Wadsworth.

Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 5930 Warriors Trail, Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Ella Mae Lewis Tolliver

LAFAYETTE, La. Ella Mae Lewis Tolliver of Lafayette died Monday, June 30, 2003, at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Tolliver was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Anna Lewis; one son, William Tolliver Jr.; and one brother, Luther Lewis.

Survivors include her son, George Lewis of Los Angeles; eight daughters, Anna Dillard of Gulfport, Carolyn Tolliver and Patrice Tolliver, both of Vicksburg, Laura Tolliver, Linda Tolliver, Debra Dalcourt, Valerie Tolliver and Cheryl Jones, all of Lafayette; 28 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Baptist Church, 1001 Plum St. in Lafayette. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Kinchen’s Funeral Home of Lafayette in charge.
