Johnnie Dickerson

NEWTON Johnnie Dickerson died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 75.

A homemaker, Mrs. Dickerson was a resident of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Dover Dickerson Sr.; a son, Tommy Dickerson; two sisters, Roberta Walker and Effie Sumrall; a brother, Sherman Tune; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Margie Overall of Jackson and Jan Favr of New Orleans; seven sons, Billy Joe Dickerson and Jimmy Dickerson, both of Newton, Donald Dickerson of Myrtle, Loyd Dover Dickerson Jr. of Flora and Jeff Dickerson, Jerry Ray Dickerson and Gary Dickerson, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Myrtle Sumrall of Pearl, Avie Lee Baker of Lena and Lela Pearl Jones of LaQuinta, Calif.; three brothers, David Tune and Clayton Tune, both of Conehatta, and Willy Tune of California; and 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Mark Copeland and Jerry Dillon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Milling Funeral Home of Sebastopol.

Pallbearers will be Alan LaGrone, Joe Dickerson, Matthew Dickerson, Eddie Williams, Michael Williams and Jeffrey Dickerson.

Larry Harris

ROLLING FORK Larry Harris died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident near Valley Park. He was 54.

Mr. Harris was born in Houston, Miss., and had been a longtime resident of Rolling Fork. He was employed by Staplcotn and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Rolling Fork.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Clark Harris of Rolling Fork; a son, Curt Harris of Rolling Fork; two daughters, Jennifer Willis and Kim Wigley, both of Rolling Fork; his mother, Lennie Harris of Rolling Fork; five brothers, R.L. Harris and Melvin Harris, both of Arkansas, Melton Harris of Natchez, Jimmy Harris of Southaven and Jessie Harris of Rolling Fork; six sisters, Hazel Hawkins of Tupelo, Linda Simmons of Lula, Nell Carter of Grenada, Doris Pierce of Natchez, Betty Beliew of Hollandale and Faye Tennhit of Arkansas City, Ark.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of God of Prophecy with the Revs. Jim Nedecott, Jimmy Sivens and Paul Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Perry, Ricky Yarbrough, Eddie Holcomb, Larry Franklin, James Clark and Bill Newsom.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Thomas, Daniel Goss, Ellis Screws, Guy Williams and Robert Barfield.

Wayne Hodges

PEARL Wayne Hodges died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident near Valley Park. He was 57.

Mr. Hodges was born in Silver City and lived in Lexington for a number of years. He had been a Pearl resident for the past four years.

A truck driver, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son, Michael Hodges of Pelahatchie; two daughters, Barbara Jones of Byram and Christina Hodges of Richland; a brother, Adrian Hodges of Lena; two stepbrothers, Tommy Powers and Jimmy Powers, both of Vicksburg; five sisters, Kathy McGlawn and Joyce Williams, both of Lena, Dorothy Edwards of Jackson, Jimmie Winstead of Lexington and Linda Crowder of Madison; a stepsister, Rosemary Harris of Burlington, Iowa; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Methodist Church in Coxburg with the Rev. J.C. Renfroe officiating. Burial will follow at Coxburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

Wardell Johnson Sr.

Wardell “Gar” Johnson Sr. died today, Aug. 12, 2003, at his home. He was 70.

Mr. Johnson was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was also a member of the Vicksburg Benevolent Homecoming Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Johnson Sr. and Minnie Terry; one brother, John Martin; and one sister, Dorothy Terry.

He is survived by his wife, Grace E. Johnson; three sons, Wardell Johnson Jr. of Atlanta, Tyrone Johnson of Wilson, N.C., and Michael Sean Johnson of Vicksburg; six daughters, Lydia Robinson Perkins of Inglewood, Calif., Vonciel Kennedy of Lakewood, Calif., and Dorothy L. Robinson, Brenda Johnson, Loretta Johnson and Denise Peoples, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. and James Kelly of Los Angeles; four sisters, Beulah Marion Terry and Ruby Lee Martin, both of Maywood, Ill., Eunice Lewis of Vicksburg and Wilma White of Edwards; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were incomplete with Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home in charge.
