Lady Eagles throttle Humphreys

[8/12/03]Porters Chapel Academy began its 2003 fast-pitch softball season with a pair of convincing wins Monday at Bazinsky Park.

Vicksburg High transfer Lauren Johnson and seventh-grader Kory Miller combined for a three-inning no-hitter in a 15-0 beating of Humphreys Academy.

In the second game, Betsy Bryan’s complete-game win lifted the Lady Eagles to a 14-4 win.

In the opener, Johnson pitched two innings and struck out five before yielding to Miller for the final three outs.

The game was well in-hand early, though, as PCA scored 11 runs in the first inning. Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Jessica Massey went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Lindsey McCool had two hits and two RBIs.

“Their pitcher had trouble throwing strikes,” said PCA coach Kevin Griffin, whose team will host Greenville Christian at 4:30 today. “She walked six in the first inning and we got hits in RBI situations.”

In the second game, Annie Beaugh went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while her sister, Amy, had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Amy Rutledge also connected for a pair of hits in the win.

Bryan pitched six innings, struck out five and allowed five hits.
