Wreck on 61 kills two drivers

[08/12/03] The drivers of two cars that collided head-on Saturday night on U.S. 61 just inside Sharkey County have died of their injuries.

The men were identified as James Larry Harris, 54, of Rolling Fork and Clifton Wayne Hodges, 57, of Pearl, said Staff Sgt. Ray Steed with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

He said, Fran Harris, the wife of James Harris and a passenger in his car, was injured.

Steed said the wreck happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 61 about a half-mile north of the Sharkey-Issaquena County line.

He said the car driven by Hodges was headed south in the northbound lane of the two-lane highway when it collided with the northbound car driven by James Harris.

The bodies of both men were taken to Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Services for Hodges will be Wednesday in Coxburg, and services for James Harris will be Wednesday at the Church of God of Prophecy in Rolling Fork.
