Jerry L. Gray
KOSCIUSKO Jerry L. Gray died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Hospice in His Hands in Durant. He was 65.
Born in Poverty Point, La., Mr. Gray was the son of Henry W. Gray and Lillie Barnett. He retired as an insurance manager with American Funeral Assurance and was a veteran of the Army. He was a member and former deacon at New Life Center Church in Kosciusko.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Ellis Gray of Kosciusko; two sons, Tommy Gray and Jimmy Gray, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Charles Gray of Delhi, La., and Carlton Osteen of Bastrop, La.; a sister, Roselene Gilbreath of Collingston, La.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko with the Rev. Grant Gregory officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mat Clark. Burial will follow at Attala Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Janice Burton Holland
SENECA, S.C. Janice Burton “Jann” Holland died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, S.C. She was 51.
A native of Monticello, Ark., Mrs. Holland was the daughter of Jauwice McKnight Stroupe and David Stroupe and the late Edsel Lee Burton. She had lived in Vicksburg with her family for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband, Keith Holland of Seneca; two sons, Jack Holland of Knoxville, Tenn., and William Seth Holland of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Micah Holland Neal of Nashville, Tenn.; and her brother, Mike Burton of Little Rock, Ark.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Chapel in Goodlettsville, Tenn., with Dr. Jerry Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.
Marcus Desean Jones
UTICA Marcus Desean Jones died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident in Utica. He was 18.
A student, Mr. Jones was a resident of Utica.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at White Oak M.B. Church in Carpenter. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Westhaven Funeral Home in Utica has charge of arrangements.
Perlean Lewis
EDWARDS Perlean Lewis died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at her home in Edwards. She was 93.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker.
Lakeview Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mary Nause Martin
MERIDIAN Mary Nause Martin died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her home in Katy, Texas. She was 89.
Mrs. Martin was born in Lauderdale County to Peter Charles Nause and Clara Vorndran Nause. She was a former resident of Meridian, Vicksburg and Gulfport and had lived in Katy since 1997.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Nause Covert and Bernice Nause Galyean; five brothers, John Nause, Percy Nause, Harry Nause, Leo Nause and Carroll Nause; and her husband, Horace Duckworth Martin.
Survivors include two daughters, caretaker Theresa Kitowski of Katy and Rita Holland of Henderson, N.C.; a son, Gene Martin of Natchez; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Meridian. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Webb Funeral Home in Meridian.
Pallbearers will be Charles Kitowski III, Charles Holland III, Benjamin Martin, Peter Nause, Scott Nause, Harry Nause, John Nause and Richard Nause.
Memorials may be made to the Catholic Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 529, Meridian, MS 39302.
Annis McBride
PATTISON Services for Annis “Lightning” McBride will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Pattison Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home and at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service.
Mr. McBride died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jasper Ruffin, Marshall Ruffin and Mill Ruffin; and four sisters, Ethel Davis, Willie Russell, Matilda Sorrels and Emma Lee Shanks.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie L. McBride of Carpenter; four daughters, Brenda Henderson of Carpenter and Mary Shorter, Vera McBride and Betty Jones, all of Hermanville; three sons, Robert McBride of Vicksburg, Pearl Jones of Chicago and J.D. Williams of Russum; four sisters, Johnnie James and Willie V. Gusta, both of Port Gibson, Frankie B. Nicks of Carlisle and Bertha Ruffin of Natchez; three brothers, Robert McBride and Ervin Ruffin, both of Chicago, and Louis Ruffin of Waukegan, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Ray Banks of Hermanville.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Evans, J.C. Shorter, Dannie Porter, John Obie, Otis Walls and Adam Wells.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert McBride, Pearl Jones, James Williams, Leroy Williams, Johnny Williams and Ray Henderson.
