William Otho Dewease
William Otho Dewease died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, in Olympia, Wash. He was 86.
Mr. Dewease was born in Philadelphia, Miss. He lived in Warren County for more than 25, during which time he owned and operated a restaurant, grocery and service station at Bovina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nancy Dewease, and one grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline Dewease; one son, George Cagle of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Patsy Tingle of Lacey, Wash.; one brother, Jack Dewease of Alabama; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baldwin-Lee Chapel on Robinson Road in Jackson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Tuesday until the service.
M.L. Fleming
M.L. Fleming died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 67.
Mr. Fleming was born in Hinds County and had lived in Vicksburg for 38 years. He was retired from the McHann Railroad Service of Edwards.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Bovina Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Adele Cox Fleming; and one brother, George M. Fleming Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pettway Fleming of Vicksburg; two sons, Michael Smith of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ray Fleming of Jackson; one daughter, Terrie Renner of San Marcos, Texas; three sisters, Earlene Sweatman of Summerville, S.C., Christine Smith of Pearl and June Baldwin of Columbia, Tenn.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bovina Baptist Church with the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home from 3 until 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. Monday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Tom Wallace, Don Sturment, Luther Barber, Bill Baldwin, Bill Downey, Ruben Sweatman, Bill Smith and Bobby Bedwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Forbes, Steve Porter, W.M. Pritchard, Bobby Adams and the members of the Brotherhood of Bovina Baptist Church.
Della Mae Hoggatt
Della Mae Hoggatt died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 91.
Miss Hoggatt was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Della Downing Hoggatt; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including L.D. Whatley and R.T. Whatley and a great-nephew, R.S. Whatley, all of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Terry White of Bowmar Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at Riles Funeral Home.
Larry Oxner
ROLLING FORK Larry Oxner died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 64.
Mr. Oxner was a lifelong resident of Rolling Fork. He graduated from Rolling Fork High School and Delta State University.
He was part-owner of Oxner’s Garage in Rolling Fork for 35 years. He was also employed by the Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Program in Rolling Fork.
He was a member of Rolling Fork United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one brother, Phillip Oxner Jr. of Rolling Fork; one sister, Patricia Burchfield of Rolling Fork; one niece, Beth McClendon of Rolling Fork; and two great-nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Pridmore officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday.
Pallbearers will be Rayford McClain, Jeff McClendon, Mike Mullendore, Henry Reeves, Stanley Embry and Don Embry.
Roger D. Richie
Roger D. Richie died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at his home. He was 57.
Mr. Richie was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and The Vicksburg Post.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was a member of New Christian Fellowship Church of Port Gibson.
He is survived by two nephews, Ricky Richie and John Richie, both of Vicksburg; one niece, Jenny Jenkins of Vicksburg; one uncle, Robert McBroom of Vicksburg; and one aunt, Leila Shingler of Vicksburg.
Services will be at Green Acres Memorial Park at 4 p.m. Thursday with the Revs. Richy Richie and Randell Burge officiating.
