[8/19/03]Supervisors rejected replacement bids for two bridges Monday when they came in more than $200,000 over estimates. The projects will be split and readvertised.

For replacing one bridge on Possum Hollow Road and one on Old Highway 3, offers were from Pace Brothers Interprises of Columbia at $885,780 and Key Constructors Inc. of Madison at $883,085. Engineers in the State Aid Division of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, which is paying for much of the work, had projected the cost at $663,883.

County Engineer John McKee suggested the board divide the north Warren County work into separate projects and seek new bids, giving the Possum Hollow bridge priority.

The bridges are the latest in an ongoing series of bridge replacements. New spans are open on Tiffentown and Halls Ferry roads.

Also Monday, the Warren County Port Commission decided to award a sewage lagoon improvement project to Hemphill Construction Company of Florence.

If the action is ratified by the board of supervisors, Hemphill, the low bidder, will be paid $550,588 for work on waste disposal facilities at the Ceres Research and Industrial Interplex at Flowers.

Other bids, ranging to $580,243, were from Riverside Construction Co. of Vicksburg, Delta Constructors of Jackson and Lampkin Construction of Vicksburg. The engineer’s estimate was $542,700.
