Linda Burton
Linda Burton died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.
Mrs. Burton was born in Brookhaven and had been a Vicksburg resident most of her life. A homemaker, she was a member of Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by a husband, Philray Fields; a daughter, Portland Fields; one sister, Pat Hall; and her parents, Earl and Eunice Day.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Burton of Vicksburg; two sons, Landon Fields and Tegan Burton, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Breslyn Turner of Vicksburg; two sisters, Frenchie Alderman and Judy Fitzgerald, both of Crystal Springs; and two grandchildren, Caleb Fields and Carah Fields.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy J. Talbert officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Marshall, Buddy Hollowell, Larry Montpelier, Tim Wright, Bobby Johnson, Mike Fields, Ronnie Hill, Jody Gatling and John Andrews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frankie Stokes, Lee Barber, Bobby Whitley, Rusty Champion, James Wyatt, Bobby Turner, Billy Welch, Jessie Hall, Dr. Stephen Sudderth and Dr. Randy Easterling.
Louanna Brown Gardner
Louanna Brown Gardner died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at her home. She was 59.
Born in Tallulah, Mrs. Gardner was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late Cecil A. and Kathryn Westmoreland Brown. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing in Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Don Avenue Baptist Church in Denham Springs, La.
She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Gardner Sr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Stephanie D. Jierski of Vicksburg and Robbie “Dee Dee” Ward of Shreveport, La.; one son, Donald W. Gardner Jr. of Madison; a sister, Delores Katzenmeyer of Denham Springs; a brother, C.L. Keene of Tallulah; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery in the Homochitto community with Sam Dunaway and John Lanting officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Ray, C.W. Keene, Bobby Middleton, Chris Ables, Kent Kirby and Marion Hoover.

George Jasper Williams
LEARNED George Jasper Williams died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 79.
A lifelong resident of Hinds County, Mr. Williams lived in Learned. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church.
He was a 33-degree Mason at Auburn Lodge in Learned and was the past Grand Master Mason of the Grand Lodge. He was a York and Scottish Rite Shriner.
Mr. Williams retired as production supervisor after 30 years of service from Marathon-LeTourneau in Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Williams, and a son, Pete Williams.
Survivors include his daughter, Shannon Gray Whitehead of Learned; three sons, Leonard Williams, Mike Williams and Gregg Williams, all of Learned; a sister, Flora Boyd of Learned; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at with Mason Rites at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.
