Myrtle Curtis Chappell

PENSACOLA, Fla. Myrtle Curtis Chappell died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was 80.

Born in Claiborne County, Mrs. Chappell was the daughter of the late Ansley Clinton and Bessie Marie Davis Curtis. She graduated from Utica High School and Draughns Business College in Jackson.

She worked for a number of years at U.S. Reduction Co. in East Chicago, Ind. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Pensacola.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pearlie Mae Curtis, and two brothers, Joseph Clinton Curtis Sr. and Robert Eugene Curtis.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, William David Chappell of Pensacola; two daughters, Kathy Sue Miller of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Paula Dale Puckett of Woodbridge, Va.; one son, Paul David Chappell of Florence, S.C.; four sisters, Lucille Hennington and Beatrice Boyd, both of Utica, Lillian Crow of Vicksburg and Ruby Smith of Melissa, Texas; a brother, Marvin Curtis of Utica; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Meloy officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Dustin Puckett, Tim Miller, Jeff Chappell, Matthew Chappell, Kenneth Chappell, Steven Chappell and Brian Weaver.

Mary Willis Murphy

Services for Mary Willis Murphy will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Zion M.B. Church on Feld Street with the Rev. Robert L. Miller Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Murphy died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 83.

Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion No. 3 M.B. Church, where she had been an usher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Murphy; her parents, Alex Willis and Rosie Monroe Willis; and one brother, George Walton.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Dorothy Woodson of Oak Park, Ill.; and two brothers, Ples Williams Jr. of Urbana, Ill., and Percy Williams of Vicksburg.
