Fannie Marie Barnes
OAK GROVE Fannie Marie Barnes died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 89.
Mrs. Barnes was born in West Carroll Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Barnes; her parents, Mary L. and Thomas Jefferson Lewis; two sisters, Serena Brown and Lumie Schrock; and three brothers, Henry Lewis, Arthur Lewis and Tomie Lewis.
She is survived by a daughter, Jerry Terrell of Oak Grove; three grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jeff Jinks officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Patrick McCarty, Drew Daigrepont, Ted Daigrepont, Jack Daigrepont, Terrell Sharplin and Nathan Sharplin.
Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s home in Monroe.
Horace G. Curry Sr.
ST. JOSEPH Horace G. Curry Sr. died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette, La. He was 88.
A resident of St. Joseph, Mr. Curry was born at Lake St. John, La., and reared in Natchez. He was employed by Kullman’s Furniture of Newellton for a number of years, and he owned and operated Curry’s Furniture in St. Joseph before retirement.
He was a former justice of the peace for Tensas Parish. He was a member of Newellton Union Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Logan Curry and Jenny Wilcox Curry; a brother, Thomas Curry; and a sister, Jenny B. Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Scott of St. Joseph; two daughters, Donna Kay Roberts of Baton Rouge and Myra Jane Ratcliff of Hot Springs, Ark.; a son, Horace G. “Brother” Curry Jr. of Lafayette; one sister, Sue Schuster of Natchez; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph with the Rev. Jonathan King officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 tonight at Crothers Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Ratcliff, Frank Roberts. Michael Ratcliff, Chuck Howland, Scott Jernigan and Adam Curry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Preis Sr., Dr. Joseph Whitaker, Doc Lancaster, Lamar Barnett, Col. Bobby Gee and members of the First United Methodist Men’s Breakfast Club.
Ruth Orine Fields
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. Ruth Orine Fields died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Russellville, Ark. She was 71.
Mrs. Fields was born in Arcadia, La., to the late Thomas Gordon and Etta Leola Turner Bozeman. She was a certified nurse’s assistant for more than 30 years, working in the nursing home industry. She was also a homemaker and member of the Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Herman Fields Sr.
Mrs. Fields is survived by one son, James Fields Jr. of Vicksburg; seven daughters, Deborah Parker and Carolyn Dolph, both of Russellville, Patricia Humphrey of Belair, Ark., Ann Leach of Plainview, Ark., Linda Rager of Nashville, Lavonne Simmons of Pearl and Marie Nevins of Vicksburg; a brother, James Bozeman of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Clydie Roberts of San Antonio, Texas, and Leola Strozier of Ruston, La.; and 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cornwell Danville Chapel with Dan Baker officiating. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Fields, Billy Jones, Wayne Jones, Chris Leach, Matt Scucchi and Billy Ingram.
Honorary pallbearer will be William Linton.
