Roedean Veronica Cook Burr
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Roedean Veronica Cook Burr died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was 68.
Mrs. Burr was born in Vicksburg, the daughter of Ed and Beatrice Cook. She was a member of the Vicksburg Benevolent organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Jaime Burr; two brothers, Eddie Baxter Cook and Willie Baxter Cook; and a sister, Edna Cook-Jones.
She is survived by a son, Anthony C. Burr of Florida; three daughters, Valerie R. Morris, Tereza B. Collie and Andrea J. Burr, all of Florida; a stepdaughter, Veronica M. Rollins; a sister, Lucille Dunn; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at Guy & Allen Funeral Directors Inc.
William Earl James
William Earl James died as a result of a fall from the MV Lipscomb Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. He was 48.
Mr. James was a native of Vicksburg and a resident of Clinton. He was employed as a cook on the Lipscomb. He was also a member of Stringer Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine James of Clinton; his parents, Geneva James Johnson and Roosevelt Johnson, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Geneva D. King of Huntsville, Ala., and Linda P. James and Samuelstine R. Howard, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Aaron C. James of Jackson and Andrew James of Vicksburg; three aunts, including Bessie Dillard and Hazel Bell, both of Vicksburg; three uncles, including James Richardson of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were incomplete with Westhaven Funeral Home of Clinton in charge.
Shirley M. Jenkins
COVINGTON, La. Shirley M. Jenkins died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003. She was 69.
Mrs. Jenkins was a native of Covington, La. She retired as a nurse from St. Tammany Parish Hospital and had lived in Aurora, Colo. for a number of years. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey R. Jenkins of Vicksburg and Mark A. Jenkins of Galloway, Ohio; a sister, Mary Frances Bailey of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were this morning at Shoen Funeral Home in Covington. Burial followed at Garden of Pines Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Vicksburg High School Band Scholarship, 3701 Drummond St., Vicksburg, or to the Ohio Hardwood Hoopsters, 1411 Ginsens St., Galloway, OH.
Delilah Walker
Services for Delilah “Dillie” Walker will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
Mrs. Walker died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Highland Hospital in Oakland, Calif. She was 86.
Born in Warren County, Mrs. Walker lived in Vicksburg most of her life and had just moved to California. She was a retired laundry worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Minnie Walker; a son, Gene Boyd; four sisters; and six brothers.
Survivors include a son, Eddie Lee Boyd of Vicksburg; nieces she reared, Josie B. Jackson and Ernestine Williams Carter, both of Vicksburg; a nephew she reared, Len Williams of Vicksburg; one sister, Ora Walker of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, Joe S. Williams of Vicksburg.
