Katherine Ellis Lefoldt

JACKSON Katherine Ellis Lefoldt died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003. She was 87.

Mrs. Lefoldt was born in Sanford. She attended Jackson Public Schools and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Lefoldt was active in civic affairs, as well as teaching kindergarten and supervising the Teen Wing at the Country Club of Jackson. She was a member of the Monday Club, the Colonial Dames of America and the Calliope Club. She was a lifelong member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school for many years.

Mrs. Lefoldt served as the official hostess for Millsaps College for 20 years, and she was the recipient of the Jim Livesay Award for her service and dedication to the college. She was also an honorary member of Omicron Delta Kappa at Millsaps.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pearl Ellis of Sanford; her husband, Marion Julius Lefoldt and her brother, Frank West Ellis Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Lefoldt Farr of Jackson, Deborah Lefoldt Kinnaird of Ridgefield, Conn. and Patsy Lefoldt Shappley of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.

Private services arranged by Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home will be at Lakewood Memorial Park today with Bishop Clay F. Lee, Rev. Jack Woodward and Rev. Don Fortenberry officiating. Visitation will follow at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m.
