Benjamin E. Bowlin Jr.

Benjamin E. Bowlin Jr. died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 94.

Mr. Bowlin was born in Little Springs, Miss., and later moved to Glen Allan to begin farming. He was a truck driver for Walker Farms Dairy and a member of Lake Washington Baptist Church in Glen Allan.

He moved to Jackson and worked for Flavor-Right Dairy until his retirement at age 70. He was a former member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson.

Survivors include five daughters, Martha Cockrell of New Athens, Ill., Nell Brown of Vicksburg, Kathryn Hogue of Glen Allan, Myrtle Cooper of Tylertown, Miss., and Juanita Goodman of Alexandria, La.; a brother, Albert Bowlin of Dewitt, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Lake Washington Baptist Church in Glen Allan. Burial followed at County Line Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home in Greenville.

William Earl Davis

William Earl Davis died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in Jackson. He was 40.

Mr. Davis was employed with Wright Security. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Davis; and paternal grandparents, Ezell and William Rider Sr.

Survivors include his father, William Rider Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Keshawn Braxton and Kretasha Taylor, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Glen Otis Davis of Homer, Ga., Anthony Davis of Jackson and Alex Davis of Vicksburg; two sisters, Charlene Davis of Vicksburg and Cheryl Henderson of Jackson; maternal grandmother, Mildred Williams of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Cornelius Lewis

BOLTON Cornelius “Cane” Lewis died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at his home in Bolton. He was 74.

Mr. Lewis was born in Hinds County to the late Ruthie Bell and Felt Lewis. He attended Mount Zion Junior High and graduated from Jim Hill High School after a tour of duty in the Army. He was a member of Mount Elizabeth M.B. Church, where he attended Sunday school and served as a trustee.

He retired after 33 years from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Waterways Experiment Station. He also worked as a bus driver for the Hinds County Project Head Start. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Jackie Lewis; three daughters, Minnie Cheatham and Bertha Bass, both of Jackson, and Mary Burney of Atlanta; three sons, Curtis Lewis of Jackson, Cornelius Lewis of Baghdad and Johnny Ray Lewis of Dallas; three stepchildren, Franklin Singleton and Patrick Dart, both of Edwards, and Tracy Dart of Vicksburg; three brothers, Isaiah Lewis of Wildwood, Fla., K.C. Lewis of Moreno, Calif., and Milton Lewis of Bolton; four sisters, Ruth Mallard and Alise Thompson, both of Jackson, Vernie Green of Bolton and Alean Robinson of Alledena, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Woodrow Wilson of Bolton.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
