Thomas Luther Guynes Jr.

Thomas Luther Guynes Jr. died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at his home. He was 78.

A native of Crystal Springs, Mr. Guynes was the son of the late Luther and Blanche Boothe Guynes and had been a resident of Vicksburg for more than 30 years.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a scientific motion picture photographer at Edwards Air Force Base in California and for NASA in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Guynes retired from Waterways Experiment Station and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by his three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Guynes of Vicksburg; two sons, Ronald Guynes of Douglasville, Pa., and Terry Guynes of Vicksburg; a daughter, Tommie Jean Sanders of Clinton; two brothers, Robert Guynes and Albert Guynes, both of California; two sisters, Betty Harper of California and Janie Lagerway of Crystal Springs; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Grace Terry of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home with Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Guynes, Michael Guynes, Justin Sanders and Donald Ray Guynes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bland, Danny McPhearson, Jimmy Brogdon, Luther Warnock, Hilbert Shiers and Dr. Hildon Sessums.

Memorials may be made to Patient’s Choice Hospice, 1911-C Mission 66, Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Billie J. Sharp

Billie J. Sharp died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at his home. He was 75.

Born in Dyersburg, Tenn., Mr. Sharp lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired after 30 years of service.

Mr. Sharp owned and operated Rushing T.V. Service in Vicksburg and was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school director and church treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar E. Sharp.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Mollie Sharp of Vicksburg; four sons, Billie Sharp Jr. of Crossville, Tenn., Gary Sharp of Vicksburg, Rodney Sharp of Cora Peak, N.C., and Thomas E. Poole of Crystal Springs; three daughters, Marie Dale of Crossville, Beverly Smith of Murry, Ken., and June Wicker of Crystal Springs; two foster sons, Jerry Verzosa of Baton Rouge, La., and Jeffery Marvale of Brookhaven; his mother, Pauline Sharp of Vicksburg; a brother, Don Sharp of Kernerville, N.C.; four sisters, Dixie Breithaupt and Edith Hullum, both of Vicksburg, Mildred Conrad of Bossier City, La., and Barbara Edwards of St. Pete, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wayside Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell White officiating. Burial will follow at Wayside Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the church.

Pallbearers will be Willie Warnock, John Gullet, David Tyler, Bud Shiers, Jim Stanford and Cecil Langley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Talmadge Steed, Dossy Steed, Lynn King, Bob Harris, Dr. Karl Furr, Lonnie Breithaupt, Dr. John Mazzeo, Albert Warnock, the Rev. Oliver Ladnier and members of the Wayside Baptist Church Sunday school class.

Thomas Joseph Sitton

LAKE PROVIDENCE Thomas Joseph Sitton died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 89.

Born in Monroe, Mr. Sitton was a resident of Lake Providence.

He was preceded in death by by his parents, Elsie and Thomas Stribling Sitton, and a grandson, Stephen Paul Sitton.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hammack Sitton of Lake Providence; two sons, Joseph Paul Sitton of Lake Providence and Thomas S. Sitton of Swartz, La.; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Wiens of Monroe and Dorothy Lucille White of Mansfield, La.; a sister, Elsie Nelson of Lake Providence; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Joseph Zacharius officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Chris Sitton, John Sitton, Mark White, Brad White, David White, Jeff White and Nathan Wiens.
